Tuned Rock River two-stage on my SPR clone, Jewell two-stage on my Service Rifle, and JP single stage w/lightweight hammer on my varmint rifle.

RRA NM 2-stage tuned by Holliger,White Oak Precision) in my Service Rifle... where it counts.

Jewell 2-stage in my SPR-ish AR... until I get a Geiselle,sp?). Too many problems w/ the Jewell. Dog slow lock time, even for an AR, where lock time can measured w/ a calendar dang near), has to be kept absolutely spotless or I start getting light strikes and failure-to-fires during the 600yd Prone Slowfire stage. And considering how AR's 'crap where they eat' w/ the gas system arrangement... keeping the trigger that clean during a match can be problematic.

YMMV,

I started with a stock custom-tuned by M2 Corp that broke at 2lb for about 5 years to a Jewell that I put up for about 3 weeks and spend many hours adjusting it till I turn blue and it still won't break consistently, it will hold for maybe 5-15 shot then shift, the shifting part is the only thing you can count on. Finally sold it on eBay and bought the Giselle and that is by far the best so far, it took about 15 min to install and 15 min to adjust to where I want it, a silk smooth 1st stage and a very crisp 2nd stage that breaks at 5 oz, it's so clean you would think the 2nd stage is the Jewell we know on a bolt gun. I have heard good report from a reliable party about the RR but never felt one on my finger tips, any one care to share your exprience ?

Monte,

How many rounds do you fire in the slow fire stage? I shoot 60 rounds in my match and usually 10 sighters and have never had a trigger problem with the Jewell. For some reason, the trigger mechanism is not exposed to much if any fouling. I clean with a Q-tip and get just a smidgen of fouling. My current lube of choice is Mil-Tec; just a dab from a toothpick in a few places. I have also used Exox and that also kept things running.

Hipshot,

All I know is that the trigger was a POS in slow prone. I don't think I shot the gun in too many prone-only matches w/ that trigger, but in a normal 80 rd Regional Match Course, by the time I get to slow prone there is normally 66rds already thru the gun. Top surfaces of the hammer and whatnot are nice and black covered w/ powder fouling. If I took the gun apart the night before and cleaned it spic-n-span... usually no problems. If I hadn't... let's just say that fumbling around trying to fit my sausage fingers in the ejection port of a AR-15 doesn't do wonders for my calm and poise.

Never had that kind of problem w/ a stock, horrible) trigger, haven't had it w/ the RRA NM 2-stage. Jewell claimed there had been a problem w/ the hammer springs of about the age of this trigger being weak, several years ago), and sent me a new one,not free of charge)... didn't help much if any. All I know is I'm not going to waste my time on the range being pissed off because my gun won't go 'bang', so no more Jewell AR triggers for me.

YMMV,

Monte

Monte,

I get it.

There are several AR shooters at my club that have had similar problems with the Jewell that you have had.

Good Thread & Question, Its best to ask around before you buy, this way you can get some pros & Cons.

Ive tried just about every one on the market except JP. I like two a stage trigger so this may come into play for your purchase, as some of the triggers mentioned in this thread are two stage & some are single stage. So far for a single stage trigger I liked the JARD the best. It is very reasonable for price & never had a lick of bad luck with all three Ive owned.
Arnold Jewell is a Genius, but his AR triggers leave something to be desired some times, I have had fellow competitors & friends & team members have nothing but problems with there's,then some fellas work just fine,so far). Jewell is a two stage.
I have not played with the new Hollinger tuned two stage built by Rock River so I cant say anything about them, but there have been some good raves about them lately.

For a two stage trigger My money will be on the Mialazo/krieger every time, they are hard to get though. Very very very close to that would be a Giselle Automatic,GA), Ive had mine for two seasons so far no problems. For the price you have to pay for a Jewell I would get the GA, that is if your looking for a great two stage trigger of course. The only down fall is that they are more expensive but you get what you pay for.
What is your intentions for this rifle? Competition? Varmints? plinking? that may have something to do with your choice also.
My Part Time job is Shooting Service Rifle So My equipment HAS to work no matter what. If I go to a team match & my gun goes down Ive just failed the team. That is not an option in my book.

Ask around & see if you can try other peoples triggers to see what you like. You might want to try a bunch to give them all a fare shake.
