AR RIFLES

Just wondering what AR would you go with jp rifles or les baer rifles for long range varmint hunting & deer hunting 260 caliber or 308 caliber what do you guys think ?

Personally I would buy a stag or rockriver and replace the barrel with a shilen or kreiger. It will probably shoot just as well unless you need all the extras then just pick one as they are both good rifles.

Why buy a complete rifle just to swap out the most accurate part? If you want to start with a custom barrel, then just purchase that first and build the rifle around it.

All my Rock River ARs shoot just as good as my custom AR's so buying one and ditching the barrel is the last thing I would do. But to answer your question I have experience with JP rifles and they are unbelievable and should be for that price. I don't really have enough good things to say about them. I have not shot a les baer but I think it would be tough to beat a JP.

No need to swap the barrel on a Rock River. They flat shoot.

As for the two custom rigs mentioned. I'm not familiar with JP, but have done a lot of research on Les Baer. The Les Baer ARs are probably one of the most accurate money can buy. But of course it will not be a small amount of money. Good luck.

Kochie, for both long range varmints and deer at reasonable distances I would look at something like Les Baers Super Varmint Model in .264 LBC-AR or 6x45.

6X45 WOULD BE A GOOD ONE ALSO THE .264 LBC BUT THAN YOU HAVE TO USE THEIR BRASS I THINK. THE 260 YOU HAVE MORE CHOICE OF BRASS

Kochie, imho a 260 is overkill for varmint hunting, are we talking p-dogs, or something bigger like Yotes, and are we talking just infrequent hunting of varmints. A good day shooting ground squirrels or prairie dogs can be several hundred rounds and the probable use of a couple of different rifles. Also the 264LBC is basically the Grendel, Lapua, Hornady and Nosler all make brass.

Thanks guys i am new to the AR thing so maybe i will just get one built

The AGI videos will show you how to build if you are the tinkerer sort, and then you'll know how to maintain/service the entire rifle.

I do understand the appeal to getting one built, but you'd be surprised at how easy it can be with good parts.

Either way, get a good barrel and get the bolt headspaced to it.
Free-float the hand guard, and the rest is really up to you. Not required to make a good shooter, but I'd recommend a good trigger group too.

+1

A good trigger is a very critical part of the accuracy equation with ARs in my opinion. Your standard milspec 2 stage triggers are absolutely horrible for precision accuracy.

Of course the Geissele triggers are very nice, but also very expensive. I personally love the Rock River National Match trigger. It is very crisp with no creep once set at second stage, low pull weight, and very affordable at around +/- $120.

No experience with the JP rifles (though I love their "enhanced" bolts). I have done load development for two friends who bought Les Baer varmint rifles and I will say that I was impressed with the accuracy and their willingness to shoot a broad array of bullets quite accurately. I build my own A/R's using good components such as Krieger barrels, Jewel triggers and all the other nice A/R products and the Les Baers are quite close in accuracy, right out of the box. I don't know which is best - but you would likely not be disappointed with the Les Baer.

The LB is like an Ed brown 1911. Sure you can get a 1911 to shoot like one for less money and do it yourself, but, the Ed brown and Les Baer have little refinements done to them and are hand built to be pretty much the best.

The JP guns are nice but are not les Baer. I have shot and owned both. That being said, they sure did find some other really nice equipment and were replace by home built guns that do the same task.

Have you seen the Wilson Combat Super Sniper? It shoots. They send you a target shot @ 100yds and they are all in the same hole I shot mine when i got it and backed it up.
