Ar magazine conversion

I do very little gun work myself outside of the normal non-machined operations. I would LOVE to have a 221 fireball with a magazine capacity greater than 5. I am wondering if there are any companies that do conversion so a bolt action would take an AR15 magazine or any other magazine for that matter with a capacity of 10 or so rounds. I have not found anything outside of the recommendation to get a Remington pump rifle that uses ar15 magazines. Do you guys know of anyone that offers conversion? Thanks

I've seen one for the Rem 700 but it was a Mini 14 mag and not the AR mag. Don't remember who makes it, but it does exist. From what I understand, an AR mag is too wide to work with a 700 action.

They do make AICS .223 mags in 10rd configurations and matching those with a Badger DBM would be simple.

Hope this helps.

I too would love a bolt gun that took AR mags, which are cheap and plentiful. From what I've read there are two major problems. The biggest is that the usual Mauser style two lug bolt cannot strip a round off the mag because they ride too high (compared to the radial lugs of an AR bolt), and there are probably associated feed ramp issues too. Note that many AR barrel extentsions nowadays have extended M4 style feed ramps which extend even lower than the original design. That makes the second problem, how to do a mag release, not worth solving.

Only person that I know of that did an .223 AR conversion was Mo DeFina. Master Class Sports (MCS). (203) 775-1013. 166 Pocono Rd. Brookfield, CT 06804. But I am not sure if he is doing any of that now. I saw him at Perry during the long range phase.. but didn't get into if he is working still.

The AR mag would be the most difficult and therefore the most expensive to make work. What you save on the mags is more than offset by the cost of a nice conversion.

Kemlin, a few weeks ago, I read a similar thread and someone recommended taking a look over on the Snipers Hide site as someone was making the bottom metal conversion kit for the Remington Short action. The conversion used Ruger Mini-14 mags or the after-market clones. The action needed a little milling slot cut into it but nothing radical. Might want to take a peek at the site. Good luck! Ron
