Ar leaks wipeout between front site base and gas tube

Hi guys,

I started using wipe out to clean my rock river ar .223 and noticed some foam would leak out where the gas tube sticks into the front site base. Not a large amount, but some.

The ar has been shot about 700-1000 rounds.

Does someone with alot of ar experience know if this is normal or not. If it is not normal, what might the cause be and what should I do?

Thanks

and from that connection, the connection at the gas tube to the front site base, the foam is coming out of the gun)

Is that connection point supposed to be air tight, or is a little leakage at that connecting point considered normal.

Thanks

All AR's leak gas or in your case cleaning foam from around where the gas tube contacts the gas block/front sight. The gas tube is not a tight fit into the gas block/front sight.

Thanks MATSUBOB,

You made my day! AR's are awesome guns, but all those extra parts are a little intimidating for a novice.

Remember that if cleaning foam is coming out around the gas block then it is staying there and in the gas tube if you can't blow it out. Not sure how caustic it is but if it isn't suppose to be left in the barrel for any length of time then it shouldn't be left in the gas block/tube. Personally I use Butch's bore shine in conjuction with a bore brush and have not had any problem getting AR barrels clean with no residue problems.

I use the Wipe out 'Patch out' in my Ar's- it's the same stuff but in a bottle, not a foam.

I'm reluctant to foam my AR's and have it go into the gas system when I really don't have to.

I'll never run foam cleaner thru my AR again.
Did it a few years ago. Took it to the range the next weekend, and seemed to be working slower than normal, the gun--not me:)).
Next time out, the bolt locked up. I could not pull the bolt back with the charging handle. A gunsmith only charged $20 to carefully tap the bolt back with a hammer.
The foam gets up into the gas tube, then into the action when shot. Maybe rinsing the gas tube with brake cleaner would help, but I let foam sit 12 hours, and by then it was gelling up in the gas tube.
Now I use GM TEC, Eliminator, BBS, JB, or the liquid version of Wipe-Out.
No foam in my AR.

jb1000br,
I used SharpShoot-R Wipe-out.
It may work for other people, but like I said, it caused green goo to get blown back into the bolt area. Most likely the 12 hour soaks didn't help me either.
For those who like foam cleaners in an AR, just be carefull to spray brake cleaner or something down the gas tube when you're done to blow out any foam residue.
Like I said, i've got a box full of other products,to include Patch-Out and Carb-Out), so I'll leave the foam out of the AR.
