AR gas port borescope question

Hi everyone,

I am new to having a borescope. I just found this when inspecting a new barrel from a well known, upper tier AR manufacturer (not necessarily know for premium barrels). I have not put a rod and brush through the barrel, and hesitate to if it is to be returned. Will this clean right out or is something wrong?

Otherwise I guess the barrel was ok, It would probably look better after being patched. The chamber seemed a little rough, but again I am new to the borescope.

thanks,
Ed

I haven't looked at any of my AR barrels with the bore scope. They shoot well and I'm pretty sure I won't like what I see(compared to a bolt barrel).
I'll see if I can snap a pic of my WOA barrel with 8k+ rounds on it. Still shoots great, but wow is all I can say... Borescope helped me diagnose carbon throat issue which got the barrel back to shooting well.

If that’s a brand new barrel, it looks like they drilled the port and left it at that. What I think you see is the same leftovers you would get in any drilled hole, burrs and garbage. If it’s hit with a reamer to finish, it’s a better hole.

Run a patch down it and you will probably get a couple chips on the patch. Part of the roughness you feel is probably snagging on that burr.

I have the Lyman borescope , not a high-end scope but good enough for me. Make note of your chamber and leade area , how sharp your rifling is , any copper build up . Clean with a one piece coated rod like a Dewey. Shoot it , enjoy it and don't worry so much , keep it clean and lubed . I added a thermal label on the barrel to check barrel temp. From McMaster Carr part#59535k13 lable7 86 - 140° will save your barrel. I have them on all my CF rifles . Hope I helped in some way.

That was my guess, but I wasn't certain. I went ahead and cleaned it a little and now I'm feeling better about it. Thanks to everyone who said suck it up and roll with with it.
