I got tired of tearing up mild steel, home made targets. The craters stop you from being able to see hits at long range. I found some AR600 armor plate targets on ebay. They are so hard, my 308, 270, 22-250, 6.5X47 Lapua and a host of .223 don't even scratch them at 200 or more yards. You paint them, and they look and feel new. They aren't cheap, the largest one cost me 180 bucks for a 16 inch steel with ears cut with a plasma torch so it will hang on a change. It gongs so lound you can year the hit at my camper that is 1400 yards away. The AR550 and AR600 targets are great, still look brand new after 6 months of weekly shooting.
Here is the guy's email address that I buy my steel from:
matt@mk1studio.com
He sells his stuff on EBAY but you can get a little better price if you just email and ask him about them.
