So I finally got to do some more shooting with my newly made AR 17 Remington
With a Shilen 26” Drop in barrel.
Using 223 range brass.
yes it’s a tiny bit short but seems to be doing just fine. I do see extreme spreads that are a little bit high yet I’m using very mixed range brass right now nothing is sorted nothing is really checked for head stamp or if it is 223,or 5.56!
it’s formed, annealed, sized and neck turned, load and shoot.
I realized once you start getting further out that’s where the different variants in speeds caused by the great variance in brass I’m shooting (some are 5.56,223 and all different head stamps) rears its ugly head.
But all things considered pretty amazing it shoots what it does with what I’m using right now.
The 25 Grain pills are going faster than my 20 grain so either I’ll lower one or raise the other with the powder I’m finding this is a very forgiving Caliber. My Extreme spread was large but yet my groups were small.
Again this brass was very beatup. when I took a sample of about 20 almost every single one of them were of a different headstamp!
So far this beats out my A.R. 15 with a rainier 20 inch barrel. I will have to do more comparisons with both having all same brass.
If I burn out this barrel, I will probably do a 17-223 to replace it but that’s too far to really think about right now.
I really like the barrel it doesn’t seem foul and so far it doesn’t seem like it has any accuracy degradation, after sustain fire.
I don’t have anything bad to say right now about it
