17 rem fireball

I find the 17 fireball,17/221) very tempting according to what I've read so far. The low recoil and especially the low report are very appealing. I initially considerd the 17 rem,17/223)but reports of quick fouling turned me away from this choice.

With the cartridge out a year now, very few shooters are talking about it. Does anyone have some experiences about the cartridge they'd like to talk about. I am especially interested in accuracy, ease of loading, and rate of barrel fouling. Thanks Hanic

I got a CDL March 2007, Got 600 rds factory ammo, went rat shooting, and shot 500 rds in 4 days, works great on rats, really flat, factory rds not that accurate in my rifle, 1" to 1.5", been loading 20.0 grs. H335, 20gr VX WSR primers, .5" at 100. Clean every 25 rds. and haven't noticed to much of fouling problem. I really like the cal. but had to change out trigger, would not adj. under 4#'s, floated barrel and glass bedded. I think I would spend more for one that is ready to shoot, like VSF or VS SFII, or maybe a Cooper.

Thank you gunamonth and Hector for your feed back. I am in the process of gathering info and developing an opinion. If I go with this project it will be in the form of a barrel to fit my Savage LRPV. Right now, there aren't too many people advertising barrels for this caliber. Thanks again, Hanic

My Remington Mdl 700 CDL SF Limited Ed.17 Fireball shot .6 inch five shot 100 yard groups with Rem 20 Gr factory ammo. I adjusted the X Mark Pro Trigger pull down to 2 3/4 pounds and free floated the barrel. I mounted a Leupold 6-18 X scope on it. I shot 40 rounds at targets while working on the rifle and 60 at prairie dogs. I shot about 50 prairie dogs at ranges between 125 and 280 yards. The muzzle blast is low and I could see the hits when the scope was set at 18 X. I have worked up some reloads using Hornady 25 Gr HP bullets, Benchmark powder, and Federal 205M primers in Remington cases .Whenever the snow melts off the prairie dog towns the reloaded rounds will be used. I plan on shooting 50 round then shoot the rifle off a bench rest to see what size groups the rifle will shoot with a dirty bore.

Thanks for your input Tuck2, I'd be real interested on how well your gun shoots with a dirty bore, please post your resuts!
