AR-15 front sight

I have a front sight on a AR-15, that I have bottom out, to raise the point off impact at 25 yards. It is right on. But to shoot at 50 and 100 yards, I would need to raise the sight even more. Is there a shorter sight post I can buy or can I just take some off the sight post and how much?

I am going to guess that your front sight height doesn't match your rear sight height. There are high-profile sights and low-profile sights. And there are front sights that were designed to mount on a rail on those that were designed to mount on a gas block (which sits lower than a rail). Why don't you send us the part numbers of both your front and rear sights?

The two heights of front sights are standard, and f marked. The f marked are generally for flattop uppers.

+1 and all bets are off for the 22LR uppers.

22LR is at long range for 100y, so I'd recommend purchasing a separate front sight post and grinding it to a functioning height. Another possibility is that you find a front sight that is "gas block" height instead of "rail" height, but without photos/Part numbers its hard to speculate at this point. Finally a (10?)MOA rail for the rear sight might be of assistance too, or even a rail riser (0MOA)

its usually cast into the side of the fsb.
Here is a thread with pic's and dimensions which show the difference.
BTW, on my cmmg 20"upper I use for service rifle practice, my front sight is also bottomed out, and I have to come up 4 clicks on the rear for a 50 yd zero. My 100yd zero is about 16 clicks up from that. 25yd seems to be on zero. It has a standard fsb, and a standard a2 upper.
