AR-10 triggers...

I finally got my 260 Rem AR-10 assembled and took it shooting. It shoots great, but that stock DPMS 6lb trigger has got to go.
Anybody got a suggestion for a good single stage at a reasonable price?

thanks,

I've been using Rise Armament triggers and am very happy with them. I also have 2 CMC triggers and like them equally as well. For the AR platform, it's hard to beat the drop in cartridge units. Just my 2¢ of course.

Right now I'm using the Elfmann Tactical Match and the Geissele SD-3G, both right around 3 lbs. The term 'reasonable' is the pitfall of every question regarding the price of parts and accessories or even whole firearms. Your desire for reasonable can be and probably will be different from mine.

+1 for the Hiperfire triggers. I've got a 24E in my DPMS LAR308. It did require 2 very small clearance notches in the upper receiver to clear the spring linkage. It has a light clean pull and will fire any ammo I put in it.
JoeBob Outfitters has them on sale now.

I just did the best compromise and went with an ALG trigger which is a milspec type thats been polished and ,I believe nickel-boron coated. Its till a shade over 5# but doesnt feel like im dragging a cinderblock down a cobblestone road. Same one fits a 15 or a 10. They can be found for abt 60$ or less. Im able to shoot groups of <1" at 300M. (It has a good barrel.) I think these keep you legal for HP type matches.

We now have an AR and ELR focused store close by. I went over on my way back from the VA to check. Brownell's is great, but you can only do so much with pictures in a catalog.
HiperFire stocking dealers now get this demo tool that has each of the trigger models fitted. Looks like a cut down lower with just the trigger housing section. Woo-Hoo!!!

You can actually test fire the various models, and even swap trigger pull springs to see what a pound heavier or lighter will do. Hard to explain what switching from a three pound down to a two pound will do.

I had a guy put a Jard trigger in my 260 DPMS. It is almost as good as my Jewells. Super light and crisp! I love it!! The only problem is every now and them it will double. I called the guy that put it in and he said it is the disconnecter and it needs a 1/4 turn more engagement. I haven't been brave enough to screw with it yet but very soon. My wife's AR15 must need more than 1/4 turn as one trigger pull some times gets 5 or 6 shots.

Hiperfire 24 3G is by far my favorite.
2.5# trigger pull (2.4# on the scale) and hammer hits firing pin hard

I ran about 5500 rounds thru my Run n Gun 223 with the 24 3G and now i have them in several of my ARs along with my new AR10 in 308.

+1 on the trigger and the JoeBobOutfitters.

I got the trigger on a great sale price. The 3G trigger is single stage and very crisp.

I've been round and round trying to find a trigger I liked on the AR platform. Of the single stages, the Jard had by far the best feeing pull, but I too had doubles with it. I reinstalled it numerous times, tried different springs, adjusted the disconnector all over the place, called the mfr and followed all of their advice. Nothing would make the double-fires go completely away except for adjusting the pull weight up (heavier spring) to where I didn't like it or adjusting the disconnector to where the reset was slow and unreliable. I lived with it for quite a while, but doubles when using it in comps were non-negotiable so it had to go.

The Hiperfire 24 3G had a light enough pull but more creep than I like. It's an innovative design to get the light pull weight without light hammer strikes, but maybe too much of a good thing. The hammer strike was so hard that it disrupted my sight picture on firing. It actually seemed to be moving the entire rifle. Whatever it was, my accuracy seemed to suffer slightly with this trigger.

Heard good things about the JP trigger, but the install instructions looked a bit more involved than I wanted to deal with. Decided on the option to send in my lower and have them install it. Told them I wanted the trigger pull as light as possible without double-fires. When I got it back the trigger was very crisp, but the pull weight was too heavy for my liking (about 3.5#).

Finally tried a Geissele 2-stage (Hi-Speed National Match - Match Rifle). I was really trying to avoid going the two stage route. I installed and adjusted it to my liking, and ohhhhh my... The second stage break wall was firm and reliable, hard to pull through as I worried would be an issue, but soooo light and crisp. When I finally put a trigger gauge to it, the first stage was 1.5 lbs and the second stage broke at 8 oz.

Still would like to find the perfect single stage AR trigger, if it exists. If the Trigger Tech is anything like their Remington 700 version it should be worth a try.

Work the trigger that you have......it's a gas gun.

The magazine selection is your WEAK link in the system!!

I have Rise Armament and Velocity Triggers and can recommend them both. I have to RA sitting in the safe waiting for me to build some thing(s).

Primary Arms has RA 3.5 lbs trigger on sale for $79.00 I would buy two if I needed some spares right now.

The magazine selection is the weak link?????? Please explain this as I have had zero problems with mine and know no one that has had any issues. My friend uses Magpul and sent me all his factory metal magazines, they are both 100 percent reliable. The only issues I have with them is I am mostly a bolt action shooter and when I go to the range I some times forget to put a magazine in the range bag.

I keep a mag for Grendel, AR15(223) and my wife's AR10 in my shooting bag for that reason..
