Anyone using RL-17 or RL-19 in 6*284?

Hey Fellas,
Anyone out there using RL-17 or RL-19 in a 6*284 with 105's or 107 bullets for long range use, 1K br? and if so where would be a good starting point for each of the powders? I have used Rl-22, H-4350 and a few others with less than desirable results
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
Wayne.

I am using R17 in my 6mm super lr with 107's and having good results. Running 42 grains and its shooing them around 3280fps. Not sure what to start with in the 6x284 but I would say around 45-46 grains.

If you have any N-560 laying around or some you can borrow, ya might want to give that a try. I had great results with it and the heavier bullets when I had a 6-284 a couple years back.

Depending upon barrel length and twist, I'd be tempted to try the R-17 but my fear is it might be a little fast unless you're using coated bullets. The previous poster is had about where I'd start in powder weight right or wrong as I may be. WD

I burn that powder in my 26" 10" twist 6x284. My bbl is only good for 90gr Nosler BT. My rifle comfortably shoot 52.5grs of Re#17 standard LR primer. It produces 3400+ that's good enough for 600 yde shooting.

I tried 46.0 grains of RL-17 today with a 107 SMK @ 3174 fps but the group wasn't that great nor the ES or SD I may work with it a little more tomorrow.

If there were no signs of pressure at all I would work up in .5 grain increments and see what she does. I would emagine that there is a lot of empty case with only 46 grains in the 284 case. Let me know how she turns out.

In the past I had the best results with IMR-7828 with the 105/107 bullets.

My new barres LOVES H4831-SC with the 107's.

I think R-17, 19, and 4350 are a little fast for the 105 class.

Hi fellas,
Thanks for all the advice, I have been gone to a 1K BR shoot in Missoula Mt,
I had to abort trying anything else as I was out of time, and stayed with the H-4350. We had gusts of wind as high as 42 mph according to the news, I clocked gusts up to 38 mph so shooting was tough to say the least, on my first relay I got second in group in 17 lb. with a 10.529 I know that's not great but the wind was the worst the old timers said they have ever saw on that range and I got first in score in heavy gun with a 88 on my 2nd relay, I might not have been able to out shoot the dashers if it hadn't of been for the wind, who knows all I know I did okay for the conditions, today wasn't as good to me but as windy as it was I never DQ'ed and I was far from the bottom so I was okay with that. I thank you all for your replies and p.m's and I will try to reply to all of you tomorrow as I am very tired from the LONG trip and all that darn WIND, Thanks again.
Wayne.
