Anyone using BE-86 on Cast Bullets in a 9mm?

Loading some cast 125Gr RN bullets in my 9mm under BE-86. curious if anyone has used it and what the charge weight was.

I'm watching this for responses also. I'm thinking of using this powder in 9 mm, 38 special, and 44Magnum light. All using cast bullets.

I "was" loading 4.6gr of BE-86 in 9mm with 125gr lead cast,... but had a scary issue with it last year loading some 38spl and got rid of all of it.

I'm not sure if it was a bad lot of powder or what the deal was but had issues with 38spl and 40 cal. loads with it. In both cases I was well under listed data and the loads seemed "hot"? In my 40 I started at 15% under posted max and some of the loads made my hand sting and recoil was violent. I dont load on a progressive press, I still dump them one at a time. Could have just been that powder I had but after those issues I never bought more to find out. Sometimes you just need to trust your gut and quit.

Alliant is know to be one of the most lot to lot stable powder mfgs out there. Agreed, good to trust your gut on that one, better safe than sorry! Bad lot or otherwise it’s not worth the risk. Just glad to hear it wasn’t something crazy!

I have loaded a few 125 cast RN's over 5.5Gr & 5.6Gr of BE-86 and a 5 1/2 Rem primer. The Alliant data shows 5.7 as max. I am shooting it in a 1911 so we will see.

Jacket bullet data goes a high as 5.9 so I was thinking this would be reasonable.

Update
Shot some of the 125 LRN's bullets I loaded this weekend. 5.5Gr of BE-86 on this bullet is plenty. I went as high as 5.7 and you see some pressure signs at that point. 5.7 was max in the book and I think that could be dialed back some and still be penalty.

The next batch of these will be loaded at 5.4
Powder shoots pretty clean with very little flash.

What was your overall length on those cartridges?

What was your overall length on those cartridges?
Depends.
i had two different brand cast bullets and I seated each with about .015”of the main diameter out of the case.
Then ran through the taper crimp die.
But 1.125-1.130” depending on the bullet.

I wish Quickload had Be-86 in it's powder menu. Does anybody have the powder profile for it, so I can add it manually?
