Anyone using a Broughton 5 C barrel??

I'm no expert but I bought one last year at Kelby's when I was was looking for a 6.5mm barrel for my 6.5-284. Jim had a 5C 8 twist 30'' on the on the shelf. I called Tim North and gave him the ser# and he gave me the diameters for it. He also told me the about the 5C and what loads to start out with. I load it around 2950fps RL22 Amax140gr. The gun shoots fine and I've hit ground hogs out to 1150yds.

I also have a 30 inch 6.5 barrel and have been very happy with it. Tim has a very strong following at the Pella Iowa 1000yd shoots.

Well that's 3 good - none bad.
Getting more and more convinced.

Just which Broughton would answer his e-mail.

Tim North is head guy and normally busy as heck with making barrels and shooting. I have found it best to call in the week and normally he is put right on.

Break in was quick , accuracy was there at the start , I plan on another ,another , anothe r, Sorry stuck in loop there I think :idea:

Tim North and Aloma Weaver are good people, North Manufacturing d/b/a Broughton Barrels have always come through for me. I have always gotten top notch service from them and Broughton barrels.

I suggest you call 920-922-4882. Tim has had issues with both his computer, e-mail and web page. Tim is great about talking with customers.

Tim North is quite a spokesman for his company! He took the time to explain why his barrels were best but still had nothing but praise for other premier builders, particularly Krieger. In the end I ordered a 5C in 6.5mm with plans to get a rimfire barrel for a custom 1712 later - after recharging the change jar.

Broughton uses extensive, elaborate heat and cryogenic treating between mechanical treatments so the maximum stress is relieved. Although custom barrels are expensive,to me), it's easy to understand where the money goes and impressive that Mr. North would spend so much time with such a small customer. Many thanks for the education!

new to the forum i must say though that i'm glad with this being the first thread i've read... i own two custom rifles one with a broughton 5c 1/12 24" 308 win. and krieger 1/8 26" 22-6mm rem. the 308 is just being broken in but is already the most accurate rifle i own and hasn't been trouble to clean yet so i'm very pleased.

Great folks to talk to, It's best to try and call Tim in the afternoon as he is busy during the mornings. I talked with him earlier this year on a project and got 5c with the f-class contour i think it's 7.98, basically it's 1.25 for 7 inches and finishes at 31 inches at .980, I had mine cut to 30 inch length.
really nice barrel and will be my barrels from now on.
