Anyone use WC844 powder?

I came into 2 #8 jugs of WC844, with 2 load data from the factory for 62 63 grain .223/5.56 ammo. I have never used this, but I got 2 unopened #8 kegs for $50 each, and a third one thrown in that had close to #2 left in it. All replies appreciated.

A few years ago Wideners had a special on WC844. Case of 6 - 8 lb jugs at $80 per jug, no hazmat. I couldn't pass it up. Became my main powder for my annual month long prairie dog hunt. The lot I had, took a slightly higher loading than H335 for similar velocities. You made a real score.

Do you know how old yours is? Since it is a pull down powder, age could have been a reason.

I bought this from a widow who was selling off her husbands stuff after his passing. It is in the big black plastic jugs.

It’s a good powder for the right weight bullets, those on the lighter side for the caliber. Don’t recall if it’s heat sensitive or not. I used WC846, in the same military family, more for the 308, although I used it with heavies in the 223, basically was BL-C(2), which was heat sensitive. I remember having pressure issues when matches where in the 80F or higher. Kept ammo in a little cooler with an ice pack after those experiences. Going to Varget solved that problem.

Years ago I went through a jug of the 844T (was told it was for tracer ammo?), not sure. White jugs with generic label. It ran a lot hotter than any of the data I found for it. Ended up a full grain below starting charge for 52's and 55's out of a 223. Worked well enough for practice and reduced course matches. I'll see if I can locate my old data for it( but like I said that was several years ago, a move and built a new gun shop, might take some digging).

IIRC, all of the WC8XX powders are temperature sensitive.

All powders are temp sensitive above 80*F.

Don't load hot and it will be fine. I'm working through 24lbs of the stuff.
