Anyone tried Reloder 26 in the 6.5 Creedmoor with 130, 140 or 147 gr Bullets?

I am a novice reloader but it seems like there are many powders with burn rates between H4350'and RL26. I used IMR and H4831 in my 260. Thought those were on the ragged edge of slow for the 260.

Well proof 26" 10 thousands, rem custom 700 I have a Wyatt box in my gun. 46.5 seems to be the rl 26 spot, try imr 4955 is shot great up to 2850s start at 44.0 I have not had time to play with it more with primers and seating but was 1/2 or better, I like 1/4 or less. O rl 26 seems to like CCi br2 I tried 215 down. Es were best with them, yes lab radar..

I checked out a few loads out of my 26" 6.5 Creed over a Magnetospeed using 140 Nosler RDF bullets, RL26, Nosler brass (Max H2O 52.7gr ) COAL 2.870" (.040" off lands) Br2 primers. I made sure the temp was up as I was checking pressures (it was 20 deg Far. that day). So I kept them in my Truck with heater on max, took them from truck 5 at a time put them into my pants pocket loaded one at a time into warm chamber and shot.
Results were:
46gr 5 shot average 2805 (QL said 2795 fps)
46.5gr 5 shot average 2846 (QL said 2828 fps)
47gr. 5 shot average 2881 (QL said 2861 fps)
47.5gr 5 shot average 2924 (QL said 2894 fps)
48gr 5 shot average 2968 (QL said 2926 fps)
48.5gr 5 shot average 3006 (QL said 2958 fps at 57,190 psi to get 3006 fps needs 61,263 psi)
No signs of over pressure and Velocity to Charge Ratio was 60.98 at 46 and only increased Dynamic value by 1.38 %
The groups were real bad at 100 varied from just under 1" to just under 1.5"
I could not use them for OCW because I changed POI with turrets during shooting.
(I had similar results with group size using H4350 same bullets and COAL using 41 gr to 42.5 gr. the only decent groups were when I removed the Muzzle Brake and had nothing on the end of the barrel. I shot 2 - 5 shot groups with 41gr of H4350, they measured .380" ctc and .685" ctc.)

I have some loaded up with Hornady 143 ELDX COAL 2.890" RL26 46gr. to 49gr. by .5gr. increases, that I am going to test out when I can get back up to the range. 49gr. was the most I could use it is compressed but does not push the bullet back out any. Had to use a 6" drop tube.
(QL shows 2981 fps with 49 gr. @ 61,221 psi if it runs the same as the 140 rdfs it will give me 3029 fps @ 65,133 psi will most likely not get to 49 if this is correct. 48.5 will most likely be max. at 2997 fps @ 62,476 psi, we will see how things look may have to stop at 48 gr. I will again keep loaded rounds in heated truck and transfer to my pocket so they will show pressures closer to summer temps.)
Will also keep track of OCW and try to figure out a good node to use.
Also I will test with no muzzle brake installed.

Shane,

As I read over your info again it wasn't clear to me if you were shooting for OCW/group and velocity data all at the same time with the Magnetospeed attached. I've tried that and at least on my guns it doesn't work reliably at all. Yours may be different, as I've heard stories that it has worked for some, but it hasn't for me at all in a Ruger 243 Win RPR and in an even stiffer barreled Tikka 20" CTR. In the Ruger I had an almost one holer with the Magnetospeed attached that turned out to be closer to the scatter group without it in place. The picture below is a more recent example using 43.9 grains of IMR 4451 with Lapua brass, CCI 450 and 130 gr Berger AR Hybrids in my 6.5 Creedmoor Tikka CTR. The upper right group is without the Magnetospeed and the lower left group is with the Magnetospeed. It's kind of like you described with and without your brake, I got a change in group and POI with the Magnetospeed. Given I'm not a super shooter I'm pretty happy with the without Magnetospeed group (~0.369" CTC), but would not be excited about the with Magnetospeed group. Hopefully that's clearer than mud and sorry for the long winded explanation if that is not what you you are doing!

Yes I was shooting with the MagnetoSpeed attached. The best groups I got were without anything attached. I will get velocity data and check for pressure signs and then load up after and try again to see if I get different OCW results.
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for keeping the rest of us in the loop!

Ok I got a chance to get to the range today to check out a few loads using RL26 and Hornady 143 ELDX bullets in my 6.5 Creedmoor.
26" barrel Nosler brass BR2 Primers 2.890"OAL
I tested with a Magnetospeed installed. Three shot groups.

*this load was compressed I had to use a drop tube to get all the powder in.

48grs had best group of .216"ctc 49gr was not too bad at .567"ctc
group average center was same point of impact between 47.5 gr. and 49 gr.
I am going to work on loads up and down from 48 gr. and try longer and shorter COAL.
No sign of pressure observed and when I popped the primers from the 48.5 and 49 gr loads they were just as tight as the lightest load.
I will do all the rest of my load work up without the Magnetospeed installed and check velocity after I have arrived at the most accurate load.
Then I move on to distance.
Also I have 200 of the Nosler Accubond Long Range 142 gr bullets coming in to check out.

I am pretty sure with a bit more case work I can get the ES down to usable levels on all loads.
Still have to turn necks and anneal. I was noticing today as I was turning necks, that some case necks were much tighter than others.
I got a smaller .262 mandrel for my Collet die and it was a bit tight for the neck turning mandrel so when I put back in my standard mandrel and opened them up some were tight and some seemed like they didn't have any resistance. That tells me that turning and annealing will keep them more consistent.
I will revisit loads one more time after a more consistent neck tension has been obtained.
We will see.

You are not going to see that much differences in my opinion. You can true up necks but you will not see es go down, what's wrong with 2900 in a creedmoor? Be happy! If you want Moore get a 6.5x 284..

Shane,

I ran the attached ladder test with 1x fired Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass all weighing 165,4 grains using Whidden non-bushing FL sizer and seater, 140 Nosler RDFs, CCI 450 primers IMR 44551, H4350, RL 16 and RL 26. Temp was approximately 58* F at Ben Avery in Phoenix on Saturday morning. My Tikka has a long throat so to get about 50 thou from the lands I need to use ~2.270 ogive with Hornady Lock and Load gage which makes for a long 2.919 COAL that still functions fine from my magazine.

Unlike most, my rifle doesn't seem to like H4350, but does look pretty hopeful with between 42.0 and 42.5 grains of RL 16 and either 45.5 to 46.0 grains or 47.5 to 48.0 grains of RL 26. The RL 26 data seems to go along well with your info and like you, I saw no suspect primers, ejector marks or stiff bolt lift and the primers were all tight when removed with my universal decapper.

I'll apologize in advance for the writing cluttered target - I like to put lots of notes on them!

I plan to shoot 3 shot groups at 0.1 grain intervals between those apparent nodes for both RL 16 and RL 26 and will try to report back. Since RL 26 apparently did so well with the RDF's I plan to try it using some Berger data I have for the 130 AR Hybrids.
