Anyone shot the new rem700 varmints

I'm also Interested in how the new Remingtons perform vs a Tikka Super Varmint prices are about the same.

I’ve always liked the design of the Howa action. They are heavy, but that’s because they are built like a tank. In my opinion, it’s as if they took the best design features from the Winchester model 70 and Remington 700, then melded them together, and took it one step further to improve the design even more with the use of an M16 extractor. I really like using the Howa platform in my varmint rifles where the extra weight is a good thing.

With the Gunblokes spring kit installed, the HACT trigger is actually quite good. I put the kit in my HOWA mini’s and 1500 short actions. The trigger can be made plenty light enough for varminting use so I’m happy. It’s actually very similar to the trigger found in Tikka and Sako rifles. You just can’t do much with the Remington X-Mark triggers so they are something that needs to be immediately tossed in the garbage.

On the Howa, I don’t particularly care for the factory standard Hogue rubberized stocks, tho they are still a far cry better than the Remington 700 SPS stocks. There are some factory Howa offerings with HS precision stocks and some good aftermarket options so not a huge issue.

If you put an older Sako and Howa action next to each other you will see why they are so good

I have worked on a dozen or so of the very latest bolts from the new RemArms company. The quality of these new bolts is the best I have ever seen from Remington. Period. And I have fluted more than a few Rem bolts over the years! Lol. If the new receivers and barrels are even close to the bolts, Remington is back in the game in a very good way. Here's to hoping.

Bought a RAR700 20" 243w 8 twist in December. Not a varmint like the op asked about. Easily moa for 3 shots with two different bullets. This is the 105 match burner with h4831 on intitial load work up. Im happy with my 550$ purchase.

The big improvement in the Remington 700 came with the new CNC machining that happened before the bankruptcy. I have a 2019 version of the SPS Varmint that was easily sub-MOA with the original barrel that has since been replaced. I am sure the Remarms versions are just as good because they are using the same newer CNC machines. I do prefer my Howa rifles because of the items mentioned, but the Remington 700 SPS is no slouch, and I would buy another one in a minute.

Not a factory varmint model, but a 6br that I built on a new RAR 700 stainless single shot action. Criterion varmint contour barrel, Timney The Hit trigger, Boyds stock bedded with Devcon steel putty. Had the action shipped to a gunsmith I trade with (and he’s a REAL gunsmith). When it came in he wanted to check it out. He measured/miced it and he was impressed. Just started initial load development, but it looks promising. Anyway, maybe it’s an indication that the new RemArms owners are serious about restoring the past glory of the 700.
ps: thanks for the scope jimmymac.

I have one of the new sporter models in 6.5 Creedmoor. It shoots like a house on fire and the bolt is slick as snot. I've shot three round groups well under 1/2".

Well looks like you have several opinions CJ. For the amount of money spent on that rifle I would give it a try, especially if you are already a fan of and comfortable with the 700.

I doubt it would shoot any worse than MOA with a good handload and likely much better than that!

The last Remington I bought was an RAR prefix in 6.5 Creedmoor (I have always been a fan of Remingtons). This gun has to be the absolute WORST rifle I've ever shot. I put nearly 300 rounds of factory and handloads down the barrel and it wouldn't do better than 3 1/2" at 100 yards. I had a 6mm barrel sitting here and had a friend chamber it in 243. It shoots great now. That factory barrel was just garbage.

I agree get a Tikka varmint. I have the regular varmint. Mine is sub moa easy all day with a random hand load. My buddy just got a super varmint. It was about 3\4 moa with Fiocchi 40 gr vmax first 50 shots and it was windy.

Can’t go wrong with Tikka. I’ve never seen one that didn’t shoot great. Tikka is really taking off with aftermarket support as well. Stock selection is good and even Bixn’ Andy is making really nice triggers for the T3’s that adjust down to 2.5 oz

I would have returned that rifle to Big Green. That's horrible performance! Maybe a dinged crown?

I could have I guess, but it was much easier to give it to my smith and have him put a new barrel on it. 3 days and back to shooting.

l bought an RR serial number 700 barreled action in 222Rem WITHOUT a bolt off GB a couple yrs back. lts been an adventure trying to get this gun together. The new bolt needed drilling for an ejector button and also lapping. lt has a Trigger Tech trigger with bolt stop and safety. l put the completed action in a factory laminated 700 Varmint stock without any bedding. With some factory loads its grouping around 2''. With a 30mm tube 6.5-20 VXIII it weighs around 10.6 lbs. l like the way the gun shoots. l think it will shoot better with a good handload.
