Anyone shoot 260AI ?

I have a 26" Criterion 8 twist 260AI Match chamber/throat coming.

I've had a few different Ackeys before, I have tried COW and Bullseye but never get more than 90% formed and I really don't want to waste primers at this time. So if I can get a load in the 4s or better I will be happy until there're all formed.

I have 140eldm, 140 Hybrids, 140 vldt, 140vldh, 140 CC, 140 rdf and 147 eldm. H4350, imr4350, rl16, H4831SC, imr4955, rl23, rl26, rl22, and rl19 and several others to try.

Just wondering if anyone has some accurate fireforming loads to suggest.?

Thanks guys.

the 260AI I had liked bout .045 or more jump maybe even .070 ..I ran 47 grs of re22 with 140 smks shot well..fire forming I just shot a few loads with bullets jammed then backed off to .050 jump for accuracy

Start around 44.6 gr. of RL-23 under the 147gr. Hornady. Increase your charges by .3 gr. and I'll bet you find something acceptable in fairly short order.

your bullet and powder inventory got me a little envious, a 260 ai properly head spaced has a slight crush on 260 new cases, no need to jam bullet in rifling fireforming your cases. my chambers freebore was set to dummy cartridge's sent to barrel maker shilen for a 142 smk @ 2.940 fire form loads can be very accurate, never had to trim a case yet, sweet little round.

I agree, the chamber should be tight on virgin brass. This is a Savage so I am headspaceing it myself.
This Criterion "match" chamber is supposed to have .160" freebore. My mag length is 3.050" might make it with some bullets but of not I will need a 'sled' for single feeding.

I have the exact same barrel and chamber. I load 44gr of H4831 under any 130-140gr bullet and have good luck fire forming, I bought several hundred 130smk pulls just for fire forming, but have used 140rdf as well. Cases are very close to fully formed, they just sharpen up at the shoulder a little on next firing. I currently shoot the 140VLDT over RL23, 47.5gr and -0.010. Peterson SRP brass and a 205m, going 2975.

what barrel length you running ? 26inch

Your right.
I'm so used to running WSM cartridges in a short action.
I read the "Terry Cross Tactical 260AI" article on this site. I used his load data for fireforming using 142gr smk bullets) with 47.0 of H4831sc. It shot .5" groups at 200yds for me. The case is fully formed after firing.

I have a Krieger 29" 8.5T brl (been rechambered once).
Rifle rem700 SA blueprinted, jewel trigger, H&S thumbhole stock, Bullet 142smk, Brass, is norma 243, fed210m and I use 48.2grs of RE 22 for long range shooting. NOTE 48.5grs will open up the primer pockets. The SD runs 3.0 to 5.00 and holds half inch groups to 1600yds.

Another fireforming load is 43.0 H4350 w/142smk. The load is slow (2650ish) but very accurate. pdog2225
