Anyone live in or near Laramie WY ?

Larime has an awesome mexican place. I always stop at the West Larime Fly Store. It's nothing major but worth a quick stop.
The old federal prison in Rawlins is absolultely worth an hour of your time for a tour. Been there 3 times and the tour guides are great and if you ever wondered what it would be like to be in prison.... yikes.
Douglas is a little way north but thats the home of the jackalope. Its been a few years but there was a restaurant there, Plains Trading post?, that I believe has been open since forever.
Ole's Big Game Steakhouse in Paxton Nebraska is worth a stop depending on hou younqre travling.
A better Mexican place is in Sinclair, just east of Rawlins.

Fellas i appreciate all the responses. I do plan on an app - just not sure which app. Reviews are not a lot of help. Is it a bad idea to get one for your phone or i could imagine no signals out in middle of nowhere. Any suggestions on something other than cell phone for the purpose of knowing where your at ?

In Laramie now. Took a trip up to Shirleys basin and on the back side was the prize of the trip so far. A field full of pd and this is what a bmag does to pd at 100 yards. Took two shots on him but that was some of the longest shots i took because winds was blowing 20 maybe 30 mph steady. So strong i couldn’t shoot unless i was laying down !! I couldn’t hold zero lol - Pronghorns galore and in medicine bow nat forest saw moose mule deer and cow elk. Fellas i appreciate all the info and have a couple more days of shooting and site seeing.

There’s a beautiful lake right along the road, on the western part of the peaks, up in the Snowy range. Well worth the drive up into the peaks.

It’s 2am here and I’m up posting this because i usually get up lil before 4 at home. Time thing has me messed up. While we were out yesterday eve in Laramie and on way back to motel from Shirley basin the smog smoke was really bad. When we got out of truck there was ashes in the air. There’s a 17000 acre fire close to the national park and centennial area up here and it’s dry with the wind blowing. Googled it and they have evacuated several places around us. May mess up plans for today for snowy range and centennial. You could really smell the smoke too. I know cali fires are bad but never thought about one here. It’s dry - i could hear the crunch while pd hunting yesterday and with the constant wind it kind of worries me. H

No going to centennial or lower medicine bow national forest due to the fire so we went back to shirleys basin and killed more pd. Today was opening day for antelope so we saw several out hunting. Pronghorns out here are everywhere. There on the golf course in town in Laramie - beats all I’ve ever seen. Saw mule deer and they just looked at us until i opened door then they hopped off bouncing like I’ve never seen a white tail run. The wind is a constant 15-20 mph and up to 40 gust. I bought two shooting sticks but still couldnt hold crosshairs on the little devils. I made a couple shots offhand but that was luck. I had to lay down if all i had to shoot at was a head sticking up. Saw a badger and i swear it was 2 feet tall when up on his back legs. It growled and i turned and went back way i came - don’t think it’s legal to shoot them. I have never seen so much open land and a fella could shoot all day from one spot. I was shooting a 17 wsm and i made some 250-300 yard shots but it took me 10 tries on one pd lol because of the wind. I had more fun with the long shots but that 17 wsm is wicked on a 100 yard shot. It blows a pd into pieces. Saw some of the biggest skunks I’ve ever seen. Not sure what we gonna do tomorrow but I’ll post for those that want to read. I would like to see what it’s like here in January but I’m thinking i wouldn’t want to live here year round

Winter can be rough. Yes, it gets really cold and winds routinely hit 80+ MPH. The roughest part of winter here is how long it lasts. We’ll get snow up until the first week of May.

And I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

80 to 86 in Evanston. 22 to 28 yrs old. Warped me serious after south Louisiana childhood. Wanted to stay but could not figure out how after oil bust. Have to earn your keep to have the privilege of endless freedom out there. Will go back, not sure I will be able to breathe at 7000. Told my kids to put my ashes on Medicine Butte.

We walked a lot and a lot of steep rough terrain but the smoke from fires bothered me more than elevation and 02. You can see ashes flying around in Laramie
