Anyone here shoot air rifle 10M benchrest?

I'm just starting out, a semi local club has some 10M br fun shoots. I've been to one, at 57 I was the youngest man there. I'm shooting a Feinwerkbau 300S with the factory peep sights, front rest only. Also have a FWB 601 coming, it should be here in a couple weeks.

Anyone have any pointers or can point me to some resources?

Thanks, Justin

Try all the brands of top quality flat nose pellets to see which shoots the tightest.

Also if your 300S doesn't have an adjustable cheek piece, and it doesn't fit you well, get a cheek riser of some type. Having the peeps aligned the same every time is critical.

HAVE SEVERAL FWB 300S's. ONE I HAVE, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. ALSO, HAVE A FWB 601. I HAVE MOUNTED SCOPES ON ALL OF THE 300's AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. ALL OF MY 300's HAVE THE LONG DOVETAILS WHICH MAKES SCOPE MOUNTING SIMPLE (THOUGH, I USE HIGH MOUNTS ON ALL INCLUDING THE UNIVERSAL WHICH HAS AN ADJUSTABLE COMB/CHEEKPIECE. THE 601 STILL HAS THE SIGHTS AND WOULD REQUIRE A DIFFERENT OR MODIFIED LOADING GATE IN ORDER TO MOUNT A SCOPE. IF YOU EVER NEED PARTS FOR EITHER, MANY ARE STILL AVAILABLE------SOME ARE NOT. I DID A REBUILD OF THE 601 AND ORDERED WHAT I NEEDED DIRECT FROM FEINWERKBAU IN GERMANY. AT 10 METERS WITH THE RIGHT PELLET ALL WILL SHOOT NEARLY IN ONE HOLE......PROBABLY WOULD BE ONE HOLE IF I WAS A BETTER OPERATOR............GETTING OLD. HAVE GREAT TIMES SHOOTING WITH MY GRANDSONS. WE EVEN SHOOT SOME AT 50 YARDS. REALLY A GREAT TOOL FOR WIND READING FOR LONGER RANGES. HOPE YOU ENJOY YOURS AS MUCH AS I HAVE ENJOYED MINE OVER THE YEARS

I've only been shooting airguns for about a year and a half. Started with a Diana 48 in .22, it's a hammer but is pretty cantankerous too. My next one was a RWS 34 in .177 that I installed a full power Vortek kit in. It's the gun I pick up when I want to have fun, heck I smile just looking at it.

The 300's were bought this summer, one is a 78 model and the other is a 82. The 78 had been shot very little when I bought it and is beautiful condition, it came with the original RH stock and a LH, I shoot LH. The buffer started coming apart so I completely rebuilt it and it shoots as sweet as it looks. The second 300S is a little rough and looked like someone had oiled it with gear oil. It was so dirty that I put in in my parts washer to clean it up, it's a pretty good shooter too. Both are better than the monkey behind them. I like walnut and deep bluing and these rifle fit the bill, the engineering and precision machine work that went into building them is first rate IMO.

The 601 should be here in a couple weeks, I'm looking to forward to rubbing around on it some and let it get used to me. Hopefully it'll like me like the 300's do.

I used to shoot a bow a lot, it was relaxing and a personnel challenge. Having had shoulder surgery a few years ago I can no longer shoot one. So far these air rifles fill the bow spot very well and I'm having a ball shooting and learning.

Thanks, Justin

I've had a 601 for about 7-8 years. Incredible shooter! Off the bench at 10m one hole only a few thousandts larger than bullet diameter is the norm. A really fun rifle to shoot!

Same here, I had a 300S for a few years and it was a great rifle but after getting my 601 I sold the 300S.

Not that there was anything wrong with the 300S, it's actually my favorite all time springer and a very capable rifle. I actually prefer it in offhand shooting vs the 601.

The 601's firing impulse is what won out for me, being one pump of compressed air. I can't shoot the difference between either rifle. Both same hole at 10M.

I get bored shooting at 10M on paper, same with my friends who have 300's, so we shoot round shaped steel from 10-40 yards off of saw horses. 1" sized at 30Y in offhand is very challenging, sometimes too challenging so we go to the 1.25" steel!! This is all with irons, not scopes.

Is that how these 10m BR air rifle matches score? All of my airguns shoot one hole at 10m, I guess the difference down to tiny deviations from that.

We shoot these targets, https://www.kruger-us-targets.com/index.php/10-meter-air-rifle-target-nra-ar-5-10.html. The bullseye is about the size of a perion made with a standard ink pen. To score a 10 the bull has to be shot out, the bull is surrounded by the 9 ring then 8,7 and so on. There are twelve targets per sheet, two sighters and ten that are scored, one shot per target for a possible score of 100. There are five targets shot per match so a possible 500 score. My buddy won the last match with a 499 shot with a 601 using peep sights, he'll shoot 495-497 with his 300S.
These are informal matches so there are PCP shooting too, there are two Anschutz's that shoot and win their share.
