Anyone heard of a Thompson Contender special run in the 80s?

I do love the contenders!

When I was in high school, my buddy brought out his dad contender for us to shoot. It’s been 20+ years and I am still addicted to them today. I bought my first contender about 3 years ago. Since then I have added and added. I am up to 4 frames and 6 additional barrels. My favorites are these 3.

The custom stock (I have the matching hand grips but it hurt to shoot) from David Van Horn on the gun on the left is my TC chambered in .223, The center was a weird one I found at the gun smith. It has some “special” grips, or so he said. It has a sterling silver plate from TC. He claimed in the 80s it was some limited build they did for one year. I have never found any information. And the one on the right, well that is my 454 casull. Its a hand cannon, super fun to shoot and heavy as could be!

Has anyone heard of this "special" run. Near as I can tell the just a hard to find bullet the 25-35. I did finally buy some of GB, just haven't fired it yet.

I bought my first one in 1971 and that's the way it came. Had my initials put in the sliver plate. Still have it with 2 barrels. .45 colt-.410 and . 22 rimfire. Love the gun.

That grip is not a special run, but the contender is an early model. probably between 1967 to 1975. early models had a grip like that grip. you can check the serial number with this list and know when it was made:

Seems like i remember having one with a grip like that in the late 80’s. I remember the strange checkering on the back and remember always being worried about scratching that plate on the bottom. Mine was in 22-250 if i remember right. It got sold with a whole load of contender stuff and xp stuff once i got sick of rear grips. Id love to have one if they could come up with a center grip setup
