Anyone have a problems with Optics Planet?

I ordered two demo Zeiss HD5 5-25x scopes with lockplex recticle on Cyber monday at price of $549/each. I got order confirmation from paypal and optics planet. Day later OP emails & says scope will ship in like 21-28 days or so. Then I get another email saying that the scope has been discontinued and none in their warehouse or distributors and they cancelled my order. In the mean time their website still shows the scope in stock and price has changed 2-3 times. I finally emailed them again on thursday to say it shows in stock and ready to ship in 1-2 days. they email back and say discontinued on friday morning. So I call at lunch on friday afternoon. Guy tells me there in stock, about 26 of them and dont know why they would cancel my order. He says he will process again. I get email confirmation again the order is being processed. Then today another email saying discontinued. I call again & this time they say inventory shows in stock but none in warehouse. They say computer glitch and website needs to be updated.

So I guess a few things:

1.) Has this scope really been discontinued?
2.) Does OP have in stock and trying not to honor the sales price? The emails keep recommending me to buy a new one or another scope with a 5% off coupon code.
3.) Really out of stock and their computer system, inventory, website is more than a week behind?

Thanks!

I have had a similar experience with them when the Burris FastFire III
red dot sight was first coming out. OP sells on Amazon a lot, and on Amazon they showed the FFIII in stock at a great price before anyplace else was shipping them.
I ordered one (for a Ruger .22 pistol) along with the mount made to replace the rear sight on that pistol. The next day I get an email with a tracking number, and the following day the mount shows up, but not the sight. I emailed, and later called them, and was told the sight wouldn't be in for another 6-9 weeks and I can cancel the order or take a discount on another model.

I cancelled, and later bought one from another vendor. OP was still showing them in stock and available to ship the next day on Amazon for several weeks when they (and nobody else it turns out) had them yet.

I'm finding this to happen more and more. One time it was with Bear Basin. Ordered on-line, got email it would ship, then a follow up email none in stock and discontinued. So I called to ask about anther scope I was considering, and the guy on the phone said they had several of what I originally ordered. He processed the order and I got the scope I was after. No idea what was wrong but these disconnects seem to happen.

Another time I called Sportman Warehouse for a rifle I had seen a few days before. Story I got was "we sold that". Couple weeks later I was back at the store and what the heck, there it sat on the self. I think the guy on the phone was too lazy to walk back and check, or even check the inventory on the computer. Go figure.

These instances sound like a company that is having trouble with determining real-time inventory and one hand not knowing what the other is doing. I think otherwise they are a good company.

But be on the lookout. There are companies that stay in business year after year with serious consumer complaints reported against them. (I'm not referring to Optics Planet) I read complaints by consumers about 3 companies that were selling a scope I was shopping for. They will take your money and try to get away with sending you the wrong product....and ignore your demand for a refund. About 6 months ago I was shopping for a particular 4200 series scope that has not been made in 2 years, and found 3 retailers offering it. Here is one such place; http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum7817.php (surprise, surprise....they are in NYC!!) This company is reported to take your money for this scope and then send you a substitute scope that you didn't want! The consumers reported having had a hell of a time trying to get their money back. Notice how when a company is reputable like is MIDWAY, this is how that same Bushnell scope is advertised; http://www.midwayusa.com/product/895285/bushnell-elite-4200-rifle-scope-6-24x-40mm-side-focus-mil-dot-reticle-matte

I just received a scope on time today from them. The salesman even told me about promotion I didn't know about and saved me another 10 percent. The only time I have dealt with them.

i have been a customer of opticsp for years..with no issues. just bought a celestron spoting scope with a $849msrp for 611 delivered.
most others have the scope at 720-740..... they helped me recover a reciept to enforce a warrantee issue with a mfg...

no bad issues in years....

Had a similar issue with them a year or so ago with a Nightforce 12x42 BR scope. They claimed to have it in stock, I ordered it and then waited and waited. Finally I called and canceled the order, I haven't been back since. There are too many good vendors out there for me to waste my time with a company that can't keep track of their inventory.

They need to work out there inventory problems if you believe that is what is the problem.. It's no longer the hand not knowing what the feet are doing once you have brought it to there attention and they leave it up for weeks while still taking peoples money for such product...My book that is fraud, the OP said he ordered a demo model for a reduced price!

I ordered a scope from them on Black Friday. I received it 6 days later with no problems. The following Monday I placed an order with Graf's and Bruno. My Graf's order arrived in 2 days. It's the Bruno order that's still waiting. Their website didn't say out of stock, so I placed a web order. I received an email thanking me for my order, but nothing about shipping it yet.

I am seeing more and more of this with businesses in general. I am at the point I would just as soon pay a few more bucks and walk out of a shop with the item.

it seems there is a software package that allows a site to sell inventory from another source. the problem is, or appears to be, the upfront seller has no control of the inventory of the backside seller..
i ordered a scope from sportsmans wearhouse. it actually had 4 or five listings. home had no inventory. wearhouses A,B,C,and D all had inventory..one had a lower price, so i ordered.
later i get an email that source was out, cancelling order about to refund(yes that had taken the money).
i simply replied that the had listed a price, taken my money,, there was now a contract to deliver and to please do so.

i few days later, they agreed, and shipped from a source with a higher price, but honored the original price.

What would being discontinued have to do with a demo? If it's a demo, wouldn't it have to be in stock?

Not if they already sold it to somebody else because they had too many orders come in at the same time that their computer couldn't properly tabulate and execute. Sometimes "DEMO" items are also NOT coded in their computer like other products. This all leaves a large company subject to human error. If they have 2 of these advertised, but 17 calls come in asking for it in the first hour, do you think Jim is going to know that Dave, Bill, Susan and Karen, already assigned the two scopes to customers?

there saying it is still up for sale

All my experiences with them have been good. Any time you jump on a deal like that on a day like black friday your taking a chance. Even if their inventory was updated every 2 minutes and this was a stocked item. Imagine how many people can click buy in that time. If u truly need and want that scope you have to understand that getting it for that price comes with price of convince more often then not. Im sure 10 other guys are probably arguing with them for the same scopes u r right now. For me. Id rather buy something I have in hand then stress over the whole process. Good luck and dont hold it against optics planet as they are a great company offering us good deals.

Over the years I have probably purchased from optics planet 10 or so times. The service has always been prompt. I have never had a problem.

For what it's worth, the above has happened to me twice. My inventory showed -1 on hand

We sold two of the same items almost at the same time and they managed to go through. We use a pretty good software system, not any over the counter products.

Bottom line, You are not going to get this item from them. For whatever reason they are not selling it to you. You can't force them to sell it to you and this is becoming all about bashing another company that made a mistake. It's hard to comprehend a group of people sitting around a table trying to decide if they want to try and sell 20 items when they know they have 10. Of course I didn't think LAPD conspired to frame OJ for murder either... Nice product line, great price, it ain't happening. And there is no fraud, no bait and switch. They just don't want to sell it to you. So never do business with them again, they'll survive I'm guessing. Order one at the new price and see if it goes through. The cancel if it does.
