Anyone have a 243WSM?? Pro's and Con's?

I am think about building a 243WSM for a coyote killin machine. Plan on gettin a Savage action and going from there. I would like to shoot 55 grainers. Suppose to be BLISTERING fast!!!

Just wondering if anyone has one and what they think about it? Also does any of the factory gun companys make them or they just a build it yourselfer?

One other question, I want a rifle with a medium varmit contour similar to the Savage predator. Like a 20 or 22in. medium heavy barrel. Trying to keep it packable. What brand of barrel would y'all reccommend?

Thanks for any help!!!

243 winchester will shoot 55 grainers at 3900fps-4000fps with varget,H380, H414, H4895, RL15, VV N140, and a couple of other powders. I aways had trouble getting them to group well in my rifle as you will have to jump the bullets quite a bit. I have had better luck with the 70 grain Sierra blitzkings loaded up with 42.0 grains of Varget and a fedral 210M primer, COL: 2.710". Shoots less than .5" at a 100 yards and carrys energy out there a bit farther the 55's do. Does 3650fps and shoots as flat as a 22-250 but hits quite a bit harder. My friend however got 55's to shoot in his rifle and if you like spectacular aerial aerbatics it will do it out to 200 yards, but the 70 grainers are really close to the same effect and allow you to reach further out. I have also found myself shooting the 90 Grain Match BT's from Berger behind 37 grains of RL15 making groups around a .25" at 100 yards and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite Varmint loads for coyotes and is much kinder to my barrel. Another plus is Lapua makes brass for it.

Soldierofchrist said it well. To add my "blather," I'd find it darn difficult to better my .243 Winchester loads, with a fat, stubby .243 super-short wannabee. I've never seen a .243 WSSM load advertised that ACTUALLY surpassed my chronograped custom .243 Winnie Pooh loads. No, I don't sell my loads, because I'd need to know what rifle and ambient temperature and altitude of usage before I'd release a true full-boat load, so I'd be back to factory-load specs to cover my stuff. Handloading is the only way to WORK-UP loads for a given rifle, by a dedicated handloader. This takes lots of range time with a chronograph. Cliffy

dust22-250

If it is a WSSM. Don't do it, the brass sucks. I had a 6mmAI that would run a 70 BK at 3900 f/s. A 6-284 would run a little faster.
