Anyone got data for lighter bullet Mosin Loads?

I have the Lyman 4th edition which has some great info but nothing for anything less than 180gr bullets.

My Mosin is .312 and shoots jacketed rounds for .303 British all day. Hornady 150gr and 174gr. The 150gr has been best.

I’m considering the following mold which is for 7.62x39 and is 160gr cast bullets. Additionally, I’m considering using 5744 as my powder since i have a bit of it.

Only been reloading for about a couple years so need advice.

TIA!

That mold might not be big enough diameter. Take a pure lead slug and push it through your barrel. It has to be pure or the readings will be off. Lead sinkers will work. My bet you will need a 0.313"+ bullet. Plus you will need to gas check the bullet. Even if someone tells you you can powder coat the bullet, it still needs the gas check.

If you have not cast bullets before you may want to read up on it. It is not as simple as casting the bullet then loading it. Cost can get high depending on how far you want to go. You will need a way to size. A way to lube if not powder coating. All the stuff needed to powder coat. Lead is just not as simple either. Most people used to use wheel weights. But they are not made with lead anymore and the zinc they are made out of can ruin the lead you have if it gets melted into it.

Lead bullets can be harder to learn than regular reloading with jacketed. It is not something you can just do and have success with right off the bat.
