Is there anyone on here from Gillette?

I have some questions for you regarding antelope hunting.

Looking for some information on land access public or private.

PM me if you have a connection in the area or know the ropes when it comes to finding a spot to hunt down there.

Looking at unit 23.

Thanks

you might try looking at the county GIS maps. here's a link to Campbell county where Gillette is. Not too user friendly but it will show land info, such as blm private or state land is.

Thanks again guys.

I have a GPS chip with all the public land listed however it LOOKS like you can access some of it however WY is always interesting when trying to access land.

I know unit 23 is tough, but I have a few specific question about roads.

I am in Buffalo, I know there was a fairly large walk in area just south of I 90 but it may have been closed. The gas and oil companies have been doing a splendid job of removing all the public access signs and posting roads they have no right to post. The game wardens say to ignore the signs ,but it makes things very confusing.... The best bet is to go by your GPS and current maps and hope the access is not some how blocked or gated off. Area 22 was a pain this year with the Mud, early snow and WAY too many slob hunters , beside the above mentioned issues. I did sit and watch a deaf kid harvest a doe and he was pretty happy ! Otherwise I was pretty disappointed this year. Ernie Bishop lives in the Gillette area and could provide better info. on that side of the Powder River. Good Luck.

Also contact the local BLM in your hunt area. They have ownership maps as well..
The BLM is the major part of the problem , they see oil and gas revenue and not hunter access as their most important duty............

Thanks guys!

I'm looking at a map with Dead Horse Creek Rd on it....looks like it accesses BLM land south of I90 in the NW chunk of the unit. Is this road open all the way to the BLM or is it gated up short of the area?

Dead horse Creek rd. is open and leads down to Schoonover, make a left and there you are... the walk in was off Schoonover/Buffalo Cut Across road. You won't be alone there as that unit has ALOT of tags but there is some goats there. Just not many trophies.
