Anyone from south carolina?

Might be getting transfered from Az to South carolina around the columbia area (I think). Hows the hunting? Gun laws? Any good ranges? Any info Id love to hear!

I live down near Charleston, on the coast. I don't know much about the Columbia area, except they have some nice deer up there and it's hot as all get out in the summer. So, I'm not much help there. It's all good down here where I am. Great hunting and fishing. I'm not much help other than I heard about the club I linked below.

Not from S.C., but have spent some time around Columbia. Not a bad area for hunting, fishing is great on the Santee-Cooper lakes. Just watch out for that hole that goes straight to the fires of Hades...I think they open it up about mid-April and don't cap it back off until Christmas. It always seems to be 15 degrees hotter in Columbia that anywhere else in the southeast.

I also live near Charleston.

Depending on which county you settle in or which county you want to hunt in we have the longest gun deer season in the country that I know of. Aug. 15 to Jan. 1. The entire state does not have the long season, that's why I said which county. The lower part of the state including Richland county(includes part of Columbia) does have the long season. It's hot with lots of humidity, mosquitos, and snakes beside the deer of course. Turkey season also depending on where you settle can be from Mar. 15 thru April 30. Lots of hunting and fishing in S.C. We have lots of hunt clubs, and plenty of management land in S.C. to hunt. There will be more info through to state DNR website.

Places to shoot. In the Charleston area we have Palmetto Gun Club with plenty of pistol bays, covered rifle range from 100, 200, 300, 600, and by late summer a full 800 yds to shoot.

In Columbia area the state of S.C. has 100 yd. ranges open to public in wildlife management areas, and there is Mid Carolina as mentioned above. There are 600,1000 shooting in Georgia about 3 hours away.

Hope this is some help. If you do move welcome.

Regards, Waverly McNeill

Thanks guys! I was way off on the location though. Looks like its north charlston? Last time I was in Sc was myrtle beach and everbody there was just unreal friendly and the food was great! Im looking foward to the move!

You know, that question mark makes it appear that you don't know where you are going! If it is in N Charleston, you will be in one of the busiest places in the state. Traffic is a pain and humidity takes the place of heat.

Otherwise, the hunting is great as well as the fishing. No terrible gun laws to deal with. Looks like you will be close to Waverly and about an hour from me. The deer season is so long that you will get tired of it. Duck hunting in the rivers can be good, Palmetto State Armory usually has some good prices, great seafood. Depending on your lifestyle you may want to commute a little to get to work so you can live in a more sane portion of the world. To me, the western side of Summerville is nice, but I hate traffic, so I haven't been to Charleston or past downtown Summerville in a few years.
B&B Seafood down where I work has some of the best oysters and also shrimp caught by their own boat. His shrimp prices can't be beat. As for saltwater fishing, spottail bass and trout are big. SCDNR has a lot of property you can access within an hour's drive. Pretty much everyone will be friendly.

Sorry for the question mark was typing too fast :/ bad habit. So how bad would buying a home in summerville and commuting be? Looking for a home, but will probably rent untill I know the area better. Im looking for a decent neighborhood in the 250-300k area with kids, good schools, stuff like that.

I'm no help on schools and picking where to live, but a realtor should be knowledgeable. Plus, what is acceptable for me might not be for you and your family. If I had a move like that ahead of me, I would probably spend some time in the area plus actually drive potential routes at the time you would be commuting. I used to work in Summerville and drive over from Walterboro, which wasn't bad. But I had to go to a doctor who is between N Charleston and Summerville last Dec. and I got caught in the traffic with people coming home from work. Since I hate traffic, it seemed horrible to me. I wish I was a fountain of knowledge, but I've been limited in that area most of my life.

I’m in Warrenville SC. It’s inbetween Aiken SC and Augusta GA. About 45 minutes from Columbia. Aiken county I believe has the longest deer rifle season. SC is gun friendly. If you want a cwp you have to take a written an shooting test. It’s not hard at all though.

Summerville to N. Chas. on a good day 35-45 minutes. On a bad day 1 hour+. It's 18.3 miles for me one way to work. Also depends on the hours you come and go.
Dorchester II is the school district that is considered one of the best in area.
If you are really going to move pm me and I'll hook you up with my realtor. She is very good. Arizona to N. Chas is a big move. Good luck.

Let me know if I can be of further help. Waverly McNeill
