Anyone fool with the .22 Creedmoor?????

Phil

I`m thinking about a .22 Creedmoor with the 75gr. Amax for a calling gun.

Has anyone else traveled this road?????

Was going to do a .22-243,but i like the 30* shoulder on the Creedmoor.

You might consider the 22-243 Rayhill Rocket. It is a 22-243 with the shoulder blown out .100 and has a 30* shoulder. At least it is according to the one I have and tht is the name on my dies but I have had a hard time finding a reamer to buy so I can set my barrel back to the same caliber when I shoot it out.

I think it'd make a great longer range coyote rifle, but I think something smaller might be a little better in a calling situation, just my personal opinion I guess.

I kinda like the lighter faster stuff for calling. I have a 22-250AI I'm using for long range along with a 22BR.

I'm thinking a 22 Creedmore would push a 75 over 3450 pretty easy. Almost too hard, but it'd be darn fun.

Howdy !

For a very close approximation, I'll offer data from my .22-35Rem wildcat.

Case oal 1.920"
Base diam .457"
Shoulder diam .428"
Shoulder angle 26*

From a 28" K & P SS 1-8 5-groove, my best accuracy load was

40.5gr AA3100 Fed LR Match 75 "A"-Max = 3.420fps

40.5gr AA3100 Fed LR Magnum Match 75 "A"-Max = 3,500 fps ( with slightly larger groups than above load )

What w/ the even larger case diameters of a notional " . 22 Creedmoor ", and other potential powder choices; 3,400fps + should be
readily attainable. A longer barrel length ( than 28" ) would boost the vel, even higher.

Not sure how it happened but Lee has it right and I’m glad, I just bought 500 pcs. of .222 from Starline, still waiting to see .218Bee ;)
As far as the Creedmore case I think it would make a fine longrange Varmint round in 22 I always wondered why Winchester used that 20 degree shoulder on the .243 and .308, perhaps to feed better in military weapons.I always thought 30 degree was a great idea just look at our beloved 6BR and the PPC just imagine if Winchester used a 30 degree shoulder, we wouldn’t have a Creedmore case or the need for it. Like a few others I won’t ever have a Creedmoor, got too much invested in the classics like the .222, .22-250, .220 Swift and many other smaller calibers for varmints. I think it’s funny if something becomes too popular too fast I don’t like it, but if it sticks around and becomes a classic that’s ok.Kinda dumb I know but just look at the .223 while it has undoubtedly killed tons of varmints and is a great round in its own right, it’s not my favorite but military cartridges while very popular don’t excite me at all.Perhaps I just need to have a connection to an old time Varmint cartridge to appreciate a case design. I guess this all boils down to the fact that all the marketing wizards in the gun industry know what sells or should sell and will keep making improvements as they reinvent the wheel and produce a better mousetrap or at least try to.
