Anyone ever heard of the 257 chuck?

I am looking at buying some reamers for a 257 chuck. I have no idea what it is so it might be a fun project. Can anyone here give me some insight on what it is?

Well, a Google search turned up nothing.
So I dug out my Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions.
Nothing there either.

Please tell us more!

I haven't been able to find anything on the Chuck. I THINK it's based off the 257 Roberts,. Other than that I have no idea. I guess I will find out when the reamers get here.

Have you asked the company, you will order the reamer from about it, what they have and say ?

Buying from an individual that got it from a friends estate. He doesn't know anything about them either.
I guess it will be an adventure to figure it out!

Don't you have to have a chamber to cast first?

Looking at or measuring the reamer should give you at least a half assed idea of what it is

Mag, I totally knew exactly what you were thinking. Which is scary in itself cause I sometimes think I am starting to sound like our president! The joys of aging eh?

Im a big fan of this idea. I dont know anything about the chambering but I love the idea of going for it. Thats a man after my heart.

Just for giggles, screw it into a block of modeling clay and see what the hole looks like, if you do it carefully enough, you can cerrosafe the hole and get an idea.......now you can laugh at me.....John

I'm a retired carpenter so i tend to think about wood a lot so my idea is put the reamer in a drill press and run it slowly down in a soft piece of pine wood or something like that then cut the wood in half and see what you got. Does that sound like a reasonable idea?

I looked in my book by Ken Howell and could not find any reference to the 257 Chuck. I like the name, caliber and reference to the intended quarry.
Curious what case is the parent .

You could take some measurements and draw in CAD. Then you could visualize it better.

In 1943 Fred Huntington came up with a 243 Rock Chucker. Based off the 257 Roberts case with a 32° shoulder replacing the 21° shoulder. Maybe that's where the 257 Chuck came from. Could be someone left the neck alone and began a 257 Chuck.
