Anyone ever hear of a 6x44 round?

You're not too far off. Here's an updated photo including the 6 GT in center; from left to right are the 6 Dasher, 6x44mm, 6mm GT, 6x47mm Lapua and 6XC:

I would like to thank you for posting the photo, I can see a slightly sharper 40"(I'm guessing) shoulder moved slightly forward and maybe a little less body taper, or not. Nice looking cartridge. I noticed in your info. that you're from Collegeville,Pa. My son graduated from Ursinus College, spent a lot of time and money there great little town and great school. Thanks again for sharing the photo.

Glad to post some photos. It's often easier to process some decisions by seeing the cartridges. The 6mm GT has a 35° shoulder. I personally do not shoot this cartridge, but I do enjoy collecting them... certainly a lot less expensive than having barrels chambered for all of them. Yes it's a small world at times; the Ursinus campus is close by and is well respected.

I know this is an old thread ....has anyone made 6x44 from the 6gt???? and if so how did you do it ....the urbr brass is what my current 6x44 brass was made from but the fellow that I bought the gun from passed a year ago no dies to be found except a full length sizing die from rcbs......if anyone has any ideas please let me know....I will be shooting 65 to 80 gr bullets ...the rifle was a hunter class built in 1980 by seely masker on a rem 700 and it came with 2 bbls the bbl on the gun shot pretty good but I am not getting any younger so I had a gunsmith put the new bbl on ....very accurate with 34.5 grains of imr 4895 and 70 gr hollister bullets.......I have some brass now but would like to make more......thanks

can someone send me a few pieces of 6gt not new I will pay you to ship I want to experiment to see if I can form the 6x44 from the gt thanks

Since I started the thread long ago, I will chime in here. I dont think the round does anything a 6XC does better. I have 2 6XC's, built them myself, and they shoot way better than most shooters can. I dont see the reason to go in for a different 6mm just because. I ran across the rifle in a pawn shop, and it is still there, several serious shooters down herabouts, and they have all took a pass on it, for the price they want.

my price was right........I also have a 6xc and I agree with you.......I shoot and enjoy this rifle in memory of my friend

If you can't make the GT brass fit....

While I get it that there's sentimental nostalgia to shooting that rifle as-is. I would probably be inclined to see if a 6 GT reamer could be run in the barrel(s) without having to completely cut off and re-thread & chamber them.

You would then have the ability to buy more readily available dies and brass. From the looks of it, I'd be tempted to try the COW method of fireforming one or two of your 6x44 cases and see if you end up with a GT case. Without reamer prints, might be a touch short, can't tell.

It's still your friends' rifle, just slightly different chambering to make your life easier.

I have thought of doing that.....???? I want to see if someone who has some 6gt cases would send me a few so I can experiment
