Fair enough.This was the test bed before i went to bigger cartridges. It works fine and i didnt do any more because i was scared of them, i wouldnt be scared to do an ultramag

Those are cool!I've got a little Win 1906 22RF takedown rifle, its pretty slick
Never been much of a fan of Savage, but this is one I wish was mine. Speaking of Savage has anyone else seen the "Gun Stories With Joe Montegna" that they did on Savage??? Excellent episode well worth the watch. Lots of info....or maybe I just didn't know too much about the company......Seemed really good to me. One thing is for sure, just try and find a decent 99 takedown, they are rare these days.My Savage 99 takedown, 300 Savage that I have had in the safe for years. I need to take it out and shoot the old girl.
Sounds interesting. Sadly we can't have semi-auto or pump action centrefire rifles here. Blasted UK gun laws.1st year 740 Remington '06;
Somehow this thing never got shot,throw in all the jokes here. I figured out,RN Hornady 150's designed for 30-30's fed like greased ball bearings,and were explosive on lung hit deer. With reduced enough,loads of 4895 that,the gun seems truly happy? Mounted a super clean 3X post reticle Weaver on it and would shoot it once every cpl years. To keep 5 shots in a beer can @100 is having a peachy outing.
Two of my boys are very hardcore,backpack,1/2-3/4 mountain goats when it comes to bow hunting. They put the rest of us to shame in their woodcraft. So one day I'm yappin about the 740 being a TD and the "oldest" says he'll take it.....
After explaining that it's,not really a TD but you can,take it down. He sorta understands. Dosen't make it a daily occurrence but,he's packed it in/out as a TD..... his partner,my "youngest" son,carries a Ruger M77 UL in '06,Redfield 1-4X20,and shoots the same RN 150's. Their shots are rarely over 75yds.
A Savage 99 in 358W would be a great thing and a very useful back packing gun with enough ooomph for boar and bear.Never been much of a fan of Savage, but this is one I wish was mine. AR-7 by AR7 industries
Oh very nice and I like the peep sight.Savage Model 99 Take Down in .22 Hi-Power. Manufacture date 1918.
The original barrel mounted sights didn’t work for my 75 year old eyes anymore and I couldn’t bring myself to drill and tap a original rifle for a scope.The peeps work very well.Oh very nice and I like the peep sight.
One of the things that put me off the the tang mounted peep on my 1892 clone was it doesn't seem possible to mount one without interferring with your strong hand when you shoot. That small base high up the tang looks much more convenient.
Scrummy

Yeah, getting old sucks, but it’s better than the alternative .My eyes too! With my readers I can see the sights but not the target. Without readers target looks fine but the sights are a blur.
No scope for me. I put a mini reflex sight on mine.
Makes good sense. I put a cocking peep sight on my 9.3 rather than drill the actionThe original barrel mounted sights didn’t work for my 75 year old eyes anymore and I couldn’t bring myself to drill and tap a original rifle for a scope.The peeps work very well.
Also did this on my 9.3x62. Just made a block that replaced rear sight in dovetailMy eyes too! With my readers I can see the sights but not the target. Without readers target looks fine but the sights are a blur.
