Stumble upon the interesting world of competition shotgun turkey/card shoots on the YouTube earlier tonight in this video

Though it was neat to say the lest but the more I looked into it I stared going from guys with 60" barrels on rem 870's so bolt action converted slug guns

Anyone here happen to mess with this stuff ? I'm pretty interested in it. The idea of precision and shot gun is ... different but still. Would love to hear all about it if anyone. Here partakes :)

Card Shoots. God, I haven't done that since the '70's. Basically Who can Shoot the Tightest Pattern. Back in the end days of Barnaby Boxes

I mess around with it some mostly 870 guns with drop in chokes. The chambers I have on each are all different along with the forcing cone. I have one that is very competitive but took a long long time to find the combination for the shells they shoot. Was all great for awhile then they switched the brand of shells they shoot. Back to the drawing board. Seems like my gun shoots better when the weather is colder the more we get into spring time temps my other guns comes on. I have tried chokes from everyone just have to find the right combination for the shells they shoot at your area.

They call the above shotguns “meat guns” they shoot very tight groups but have to look somewhat factory.
They shoot for meat and side pots.
The picture Ive added is what they call a rail gun.
They use savage 212 actions and custom barrels made by a good friend of mine.
The chassis is made by a few people here in the US and are all CNC and mill turned.
Some shooters polish them others powder coat them but I did the Cerakote on way too many over the years.
I never thought shotguns could be that accurate but when you can drop a quarter through the hole they make at I think 55 feet it’s unbelievable, but expensive.

Get a few guys together for a little shooting fun.
Someone calls it a competition event.
Everyone goes nut$.

It's a pretty good fund raiser for lots of sportsmens clubs and Volunteer Fire Companies in my area. I never saw the appeal but I have seen a local trend to totally stock guns, chokes, and sights. Most venues give you the shell you will shoot. They draw more shooters than most local rifle matches in many cases.

I used to go to the local VFW in Goose Creek, SC and do turkey shoots when I was stationed there. Fun time, cheap entertainment, and cheap food/drinks.

Funny story. My wife's mom, dad, aunt, and uncle come to town for Thanksgiving. I tell them about the Turkey shoots and they decide they want to go. So, Wed evening, day before Thanksgiving, the VFW is having a big shoot, so we go. Again, cheap entertainment and cheap food drinks. I shoot a couple of cards and we are having fun and my wife's aunt, who had never fired a shotgun in her life decides she wants to shoot. I have the wife's Browning Gold Hunter 20ga in the truck in case the wife decided she wanted to shoot a card, so I go grab it. We enter the next shoot, which happened to be for 2 hams, 2 turkeys, and 2 roaster chickens (big pot). Time comes for aunt to shoot. I go up to the line with her and the guy running the line and I help her load, aim, and shoot. Time comes to call the winner, and would you believe she won the round. Go to get her card and there is exactly one hole in the thing, dead center on the x. One of the funniest things I have ever seen and something that we still talk about at Thanksgiving almost 30 years later.
