ANYBODY USING THE PELLETS FOR BARREL CLEANING ?

Steve: the dental packing I've seen is pretty soft and squishy. The felts are fairly firm. Unless you are able to fill out the interior of the packing, I can't see them offering anywhere near the surface friction (for lack of a better term) that the pellets do.

Recently was told about the pellets for barrel cleaning and wanted to explore the good, bad, and/or ugly concerning them. The brands I have been able to look at so far are VFG, TIPTON, and BARREL BUDDY PELLETS. Anybody using either of them here on the site and care to pour some knowledge on the subject ?
I have tried them and did not find any difference between using a bronze brush and patches. Save your money.

I wrote a little review linked below.

Of interest is the following (details found in the link):
  • only Tipton makes 17 & 20 cal pellets with a hole (drilled) and they suck on a jag but at least the 17 cal works well on a Patchworm (haven’t tried that combo with 20 cal)
  • you shouldn’t use the little knurled nut on the VFG jag outside of shotgun bores
  • I use a straw to protect the bore when using the Patchworm

VFG for the great reasons above

also get them when they are in stock

once you try them and like them then BUY WHEN YOU CAN and you may have some when you really need them rather than wait 6 months for your retailer to get stock, don’t ask how I know
