Anybody shooting a 22 - 6mm?

Woodman, Hey I'm shooting a 22-243 fast twist. 80gr SMK's and Retumbo or 7828. Hart barrel 26" What are you using?

I shot a 30 inch 22/ 6mm AI for a short amount of time before I torched the barrel with to many 80 grain SMK's with there little butts on fire.
Shot great if you could keep up with the throat advancing every time you yanked on the trigger:mad:
I think that by the time I'd burnt up 2#'s of RL-25 the barrel was pulled for accuracy reasons, and then shortened and rechambered to a 26 inch 22BR. It's still shooting 75 grain Amax's very well on varmints now with over 1000 rounds out of it, with H-4350, and the throat still looks fine..
No more mega high speed 22's for me......

Thanks Preacher. I was looking for someone's experience before I built one. I will probably stay with my 22Br. Woodman

I have a 30-inch 22-6mm Remington that only has 150 rounds through it. It's a 10-twist and will only stabilize up to 70-grain bullets. Having determined that I couldn't shoot the Hornady 75 and 80 grain A-Maxes, I settled on the 70-grain Berger VLD. Boy am I glad I did. My last trip to the range I shot at 300 yards. I shot five groups, three were three shot groups and two were five shot groups. The first and best three-shot group measured .325. The best five shot group was .420. All five groups were under and inch. I load 46.5 grains of H4831 at 3644 FPS. My only worry is throat erosion.

Why do we build chambers so that there is a vertical wall right in front of the case where the leade begins? This presents a sharp edge that gets glowing red and cracks faster than any other part of the rifle barrel. It seems to me that reamers could be designed to angle the barrel up to the leade and firecracking would be delayed.

i had a 22-6mm ackley, built on an amt action. Richard franklin built it for a friend, and when he was bored with it i bought it. i worked up a load for the sierra 60HP. i ended up shooting them i think it was 4100 or 4200 fps. they were flat shooting and hard hitting. only killed 2 chucks with it. one at 340 yards, the other at 525 yards. it was an inch high at 100 yards. the 525 yard shot was at a pig laying down facing me. i had missed him several times with a 6br, so he was educated. held a few inches aboved him and that was it. knocked the dust off him for sure. it was super, super accurate. i agree with others, it is awesome round, but you will re-barrel it shortly. it seemed this one lasted a while since i shot light bullets. stick with a 6br or some sort of br improved case. with a 1x14 you can get speed and barrels last longer. i shoot a 6brx now and love it.

I have a .22 x 6mm Ackley Improved Win. Model 70 with a 28 inch Pac Nor Barrel. With RL22 I'm getting 3700 fps with the Hornady 75 grain bullet. I've only put about 300 or so rounds through it so I can't say much about throat erosion. I used it in South Dakota on prairie dogs out to about 600 yards and it was deadly. Since I use over 51 grains of powder per round I'm afraid to burn the barrel out and use moly coating on all of my rounds. I don't know if it will prolong the life of the barrel but I doubt that it will hurt.
