Anybody shoot at the Best of the West Shooting Range in Liberty Hill, TX?

I'm looking at making a major life change and was thinking about moving to Georgetown, Texas. Well either there or near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. My primary relocation choices though must have a really good gun range nearby.

I'm 60, retired and I'm looking to buy a home in Sun City West. So what I'm looking for is someone who uses this range and can fill me in on what it's like living in the area.

I've been there a few times. The place is very, very nice! Steel targets positioned at 250, 500, 750 and 1000 yards will do for a fun day. Tactical bays, sporting clays, you name it. The people running it, make it even better!

Do they offer NRA xtc, mid-long range' F Class? Do they have Pitts? I sent this request to their web site two month ago and still waiting for a response. 'Doesn't sound like anyone there answers questions.

I have been there only once and will probably not go back. We go to the Austin area about once a month to visit family and I thought this might be a good place to practice my long range shooting. I normally shoot 600 yards and heard they have up to 1000 yards there so I thought I would give this range a try. Like the prior post said for long range they only have steel targets at 250, 500, 750 and 1000 yards. You are not allowed to set up your own paper targets at these longer ranges. The person working there said that since all their rifle shooting is done on the same range they cannot afford to shut the range down for the time that would be required for the long range shooters to be installing and checking their targets. So what you have is a nice range that for long range shooters is just a steel target plinking for fun range. Nothing to be gained or learned for me to shoot long range there. Georgetown/Sun City is a great area to retire to so you cannot go wrong there. I know several people that have retired there and they love it. They do have three golf courses if you like to play golf and a lot of activities but long range shooting is not one of them. Since I am not from there I do not know about any other long range shooting facilities in the Georgetown/ Austin area. Good luck with your move.

I shoot 500 meter F-open at CTSA. Scheduled shoots are the first saturday of each month. About six miles west of New Braunfels, take a left on Range Road. Great bunch of guys, very safety conscious. Or Houston, they have a 1000 yd shoot. Will make it one day.

Unless you own enough land that's the best I know of in south Texas.

The 1000 yard range is south of Houston around Pearland called Bayou Rifles Gun Clun. I do not know much about it but I think it is a members club. I think they use the same course for several distances. I belong to the BASC (Bay Area Shooting Club) in Crosby Texas east of Houston, another members only club. For Long Range we have a 300/400 yard range and a 500/600 yard range, both with covered shooting positions which means a lot during those hot Texas summers. There is a 600 yard range just west of Houston that is open to the public but I do not know much about it. Also north of Houston near Huntsville there is the Pine Valley Range, another up to 600 yard range. They have held the East Texas Benchrest 600 yard Championship there the last couple of years and have long range clay shoots every few months. Again I do not know a lot about that range. I have attended just to watch a couple of matches there and they do a nice job.
