Anybody loading 6mmBRX

I just purchased a used rifle from a member here chambered in 6mmBRX waiting till payment clears and he can ship it my way. In the mean time I have been collecting stuff for it, like dies which I just bought another 6mmBR set and just raise the resize die up .100. I found 240 pieces of 4 times fired Lapua 6mmBR brass from a member in our club for $75 bucks. So I'm excited waiting for it to arrive at my FFL....

RL16, 107SMK’s in the lands until the engraving marks are square and CCI450’s. There’s nodes at 2920 2990 and 3030. Call Harrels for a sizing die and use anyone’s BR seater. Have fun!

There’s a chance that the brass you bought will not chamber in your rifle ... not until the base is sized down enough. A raised 6BR sizing die isn’t going to get you there. Even with brass fired in your chamber & your chamber only, you will eventually need a die capable of sizing the base, whether it’s a 308 small base die, a whidden brx sizing die or a Harrell’s made to your chamber. Do a search for “clickers” on this forum and you will get a better understanding of the issue of raising a BR die .100”.

Myself, I use a Whidden BRX sizing die & a Redding 6BR seating die without any issues. I use a Harrell’s on my BR & Dasher and they work well. I wouldn’t hesitate to use one for a BRX either.

As a general rule, you can use standard dasher loads. Just use caution because every barrel / chamber is different.

Lots of us play with this round including me. SWD is on the mark with the 107. For a 105hybrid or 106EPS, I've found good successes at the lower node about 3003-3010fps. Hammers and you'll have to go to 300yds+ to see differences between similar loads as you are finetuning. Feels like cheating shooting this round. Drew

There are a few combinations that work well. All depending on chamber dimensions. But the above mentioned nodes are where it’s at. Enjoy pure accuracy. I have Redding Brx dies from Robert Whitley. Shot a 4x600 on the f class target last August and scored 800-67x with the lil BRX pop gun. Love it

Lefty, congrats on the new rifle. Like the other have stated your 6BR dies won’t size the base of your brass so just run them thru an old 308 (or 243, 7/08, 06 etc ) sizing die minus the de-capping stem. Next is your brass. Your going to have fire form them. I’ve tried loading cheap bullets long so the case stays against the bolt face and the bullet is jammed. Even tried premium bullets this way. Take them to a midrange match and shoot them. You’ll be surprised how accurate they can be. I’ve lost some cases (neck splits) doing this. My preferred method is to use new brass. Using an expander mandrel expand the necks to at least 257, I use a 6.5 mandrel. Next using a bushing die (and this you have to play with a little) size 1/3 of the neck back down to 6mm and see if the case will chamber in your rifle. If doesn’t size down another 1/10” and try again. Do this until you can chamber the case with the slightest crush fit.

What you have done is created a false shoulder in the case. Now the case fits your chamber length. If done correctly you won’t loose any cases fire forming. Load up with some CCI 450 primers, Varget or R-15 to start go shoot a match and have fun.

I use 95vld Bergers right now in my BRX because of a shorter freebore. I think the 105 Hybrids are better but until run out of the 95vlds and then ream the thought a little deeper then I will switch to the 105.
I tried H4350 in the BRX but it seamed a little to slow for 95gr bullets. I bet the 115 would work though you will need along drop tube.

You will like the BRX. Its only reason that it is not as popular as the Dasher is it does not have a cool sounding name.

I forgot to mention I fire form with 30.5 of Varget and 107SMK hard jammed. You can also use the false shoulder method jr600 uses. I know some guys get better results that way. You’ll be shocked at how well fire form loads shoot. Definitely use them at a 600 yard F match.

The 6BRX has done me great over the years.. I like to hydroform my brass, just easy
Yeah you will get sick of swapping dies using 6BR and a 243 die.. Just buy a Harrells or whidding FL
Would recommend annealing the cases you got before Fireforming
I'm onto my 3rd barrel atm with best being 0.867 inches at 500m/547y and lots in the 1 to 2 inch at 500m
2208/varget is the go for powder but I'm trying a slower powder in new barrel (still testing) but it's showing promise.. I used 105gr berger hybrids and VLDsand 107gr Smk with great success.. Trying 103gr copperheads (aussie bullet) atm..

I tried forming brx brass out of out of used 6br brass and had quite a few separations of brass as a result. Bad idea in my book!

Lefty, Start w annealing that 4x fired brass. You will find lots of good info here. As for fireforming it is a pain in the ass. Hopefully the rifle owner gives you some brass & his pet load. Otherwise, you have many options. I'm cheap, I use my old pull down bullets or Hunting bullets not needed. A dose of 8/9 grains of Unique powder blows out that case nicely. Set the bullet to a light jam in the bore. & go be bored. it is dirty thankless work. With new Lapua Brass Let someone hydro-form it for you. Good luck, I love my BRX . & I use Varget & the 105 Berger hybrid. use Mag primers in the full power loads. Mike in Ct... I did not draw this line thru here.

Before you do anything else you need to determine which BRX you have. There are two versions of the BRX, Whitley version and Crones version. The Whitley is the more common and Crones is the original. They will require different sizing dies since the Crones shoulder is set forward more than the Whitley. You more than likely have the Whitley version but you need to verify.

Which one is this?

Gun has been shipped and I should get it in a couple of days. I have a bunch of Nosler 105 RDF's I didn't really like so I think I will use them to fireform some brass.

Question,... can I use my BR modified case to find my seating depth till I get some fired rounds then I can make one.
