oh yea that was the norm - no such thing as a muffler in the early 60's. more horse power and defeat the governor, he even rigged up a propane injector on the gas engine 10-20, probably boosted the hp to 50hp lolOur "big" tractor when I was a youngster on the dairy farm was an Oliver Super 88 wide front end. It had a straight pipe and dad put a wire on the governor arm to over rev the engine. Probably part of the reason I can't hear well. Then again firing that short barrel 243 from inside the two car attached garage probably had more to do with it!!
Dang nice vehicles there. Real nice.I posted earlier that I owned and built some hot rods, here's a few.

Any boat builders out there? Been working on this Dory off and on for the last few years. A lot of other projects keep getting in the way
ThanksWow. Words do not capture that piece of art.
Yes, it is frustrating to all of us. After all the hard work, sanding, sanding then more sanding and painting. Most frustrating is finding them, in a tree many, many feet in the air.Estes Executioner is my favorite. Lots of fun, for a long time. Losing rockets is very frustrating to me.
That is one of our problem as well, finding a group and or a place to launch. Miss the old days when you could trudge out in a random hay field and launch till you were out of motors. It's been decades since I last did any rocketry. Designed a handful of simple, smaller rockets that could easily use the larger Estes engines. Have never done the Aerotech-powered (or similar) rockets.
Really fun. You get the design and build aspect (much like, say, R/C planes), the power and trajectory aspect, but also the thrill of high-altitude powered flight. Not a lot of such stuff going on around my neck of the woods. Years ago, there used to be a couple of rocketry groups that'd get together in the remoter areas of the Colorado plains, to do launches over the weekends.
I remember as a kid in Wyoming one of my elective classes was rocket building. At the end of semester the whole school came out to watch us light them off. We had rockets all over down town Gillette. That is one of our problem as well, finding a group and or a place to launch. Miss the old days when you could trudge out in a random hay field and launch till you were out of motors.
