ANYBODY EVER USE CALHOON BULLETS

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
They are silver with some kind of gilding wash on the bullets. My question is would it hurt the barrel? I have not used the one's I have yet and want to make sure that I dont ruin a new barrel. They are .22 caliber and in various weights.I want to shoot them in my .223 and 22-250 ackley improved. The .223 is a remington and the ackley was built off a savage reciever with a shilen select barrel.

I've never used them. I looked on Varminter.com and they were some mixed reviews about the performance of the bullets as far as expansion is concerned, but no one mentioned anything about harming the barrel. The way the guys on that forum were talking about that coating was that it protected the barrel (similar to Moly or Boron). Sorry I could be of more help.

Hi Jon.
I`ve shot a couple hundred of the Calhoon 50-52gr double hollow points in my 22-250AI.
great bullets. mostly bench shooting, but coyotes didn`t mind either.
bullets are very slick, with no adverse effects on barrel life.

My buddies and I have shot them outta 223s and they worked very well on groundhogs seemed to be pretty accurate but never put them on paper. Didn't notice any problems with barrel either cleaned up the same.

I have shot the 32gr and the 39gr out of a 204 ruger. These things are really nice bullets. They ended up being my bullet of choice in the 204.

Shot some g-hogs with the 42gr 22cal. out of a savage 223. They were amazing. big holes big air. Try them.

I just ordered a box of HSM Varmint Ammunition for my Hornet, it has the Calhoun 42gr DHP bullet. So hopefully here in a few weeks i'll get to try them out.
