Anybody building a 6ARC? Where do you shop?

I'm thinking of turning my Valkyrie AR into a 6ARC. Where is the best places to shop for barrels, bolts/carriers, and mags? Is there anything else such as buffers, springs, etc., that I need to change? Thanks guys!

One option might be X-caliber.net. They can provide a wide selection of twists and riflings in virtually any length, contours and fluting that you might want. Additionally, they can provide a Rubber City bolt headspace to the barrel. You will also need a gas block (i would recommend adjustable) and a gas tube. Your existing carrier and buffer assembly will be just fine. Any forend components will be up to you. My 28" 6mm 5R 1:7 twist in 6mm Grendel/Predator/AR is a 1/2 or better MOA shooter with the right load. The one thing that you need to watch is that any of these cartridges need plenty of barrel length and heavy bullets (108+ grains) to make 1000 yards. If you go to a longer (22"+) barrel, you will want to specify a +2" gas tube.
I don't know if they can still provide the G/P/AR chambering or not. They no longer list it on their website, but they may still have the reamers & gates. They do list the ARC. It might be worth a call.

6mm ARC is a 0.030" shorter headspaced version of the Grendel/Predator/AR. I have not figured out why Hornady decided to make that change other than to have a proprietary cartridge. If you go with the ARC, you will be able to purchase commercial ammo, otherwise you will need to resize from 6.5 Grendel. Be careful when you reload that you don't push the shoulder back too far, both of my 6mm rifles are prone to head seperation if I use the standard shellholder. Redding has a set of shellholders that will allow you to resize up to 0.010" longer in 0.002" increments.

Afret,
I don't know whether it is possible to push the Grendel shoulder back 0.030" without collapsing the o.d. of the cartridge. I would be interested in knowing how it works out.

One other concern is the Type I vs Type II bolts. The face of the Type II is 0.010" deeper, making the chambering to the headspace specific to the bolt. I would verify which bolt you need.

As to the mags, the 6.5 Grendel and all of the 6mm variants (including the ARC) use the same mag.

I have one X-Caliber AR barrel (22N) and love it.
Have another one on order.
Shipping time in Jan was 12 to 14 weeks.
Orders placed now have a longer lead time.
The RCA bolts haven't been in stock for many moons.

I got my barrel from brownells, faxon 20", bcg from PSA, dies, upper reciever from Midwayusa.
Standard 6 pos stock and buffer, all performs perfectly.
Local shop has ammo in stock and you can take 6.5 grendel or 7.62x39 brass and make it to 6arc.
I build mine for coyote, prints 55g bullets into average .650"

I went with the X-Caliber barrel and the bolt that they headspace to the barrel before it ships. I went with a 22" 1in7" twist. stainless. Really nice barrel. Havent shot it yet, but I have X-Calibers on most of my savage builds that shoot under .5" at 100yds. Understand that I ordered mine during a holiday sale and if you can wait, I would. Got the barrel and bolt for $390 shipped. The bolt is a Rubber City bolt.

I got mags from LaRue during Christmas for $17 a piece. Really nice mags. However, I'm pretty sure 224 Val mags are the same as 6.5 Grendel and 6 ARC. You should not need new mags!

Can anybody corroborate that those mags are the same? I sure hope so. If so, money saved!

E-Lander 6.5 Grendel 17 Round Magazine - LaRue Tactical
They are $18.00 now
However, there does seem to be a little difference between the 6.8/224 and the 6.5/6ARC. I'm seeing guys using the 6.8/224 mags with the 6.5/6ARC and having no problems. Maybe that's what I remember, was the 6.8. However, Dont just run out and buy 6.5/6ARC mags right away. Try the 6.8/224 mags and see how they do. Might save you some money after all.
I've ran 6.5 Grendel in a 223/556 mag with no issues.

I can't find the JP enhanced bolts in stock ANYWHERE. This craze is getting out of hand already!

What is the difference between type one and type two?
See my 6. Basically the Type II was a modification that is supposed to be a stronger design thereby reducing the incidence of bolt failure. Chambering must match bolt type in order to have proper headspace. The type I will measure 0.125" from the front of the lugs to the bolt face, the Type II - 0.136" The type I is effectively a 7.62 x 39.
Most are assembled as Type II.
