Any tips for first time short range benchrest?

Well I shot some groups I was damn proud of and I shot some damn poor ones. My wind reading needs work. Overall this weekend was a complete success. I had a blast. Everyone at the range was very helpful and took their time to give advice. Dave, thanks a bunch for the advice on my bag set up on Saturday evening. Thanks again to everyone that has reached out to me with help and advice. Unfortunately I’m hooked and these guys are gonna have to put up with me some more.

Congrats! One of my recommendations on a practice method is to put your flags out, let each one change and shoot with the same aiming point and make a mental note on how far it drifts. Dont even try to compensate just let it go where its going

on your range at home you should practice on a timer. and you need a box or cart or at least a plan to get your gear on and off the bench. if you practice at home as you will shoot it will become second nature to you and you wont feel rushed.

little things can throw you off and into a tizzy. for instance the first time you look down at your nice pretty cartridges all lined up and ready to load into the rifle and they dont have primers in them.

load up a half dozen and place them at your bench for that emergency, when it happens. then instead of getting worked up or running back to your loading bench just reach down and pick them up.
I successfully only had one without a primer, luckily I noticed it when I went to place them in my cartridge block.
