Any reason to pick one over the other?

been looking at doing a bit longer range rifle in an ar platform.
All the valkerie talk and I just don’t rally buy into it. It’s not a new round. The 22x6.8spc has been around a while.
I know it’s a well capible round. But the brass isn’t worth a crap as far as pushing it.
I’m sitting with a pretty good stockpile of 90gr smk from my 22/6mm.
I’m looking at the valkerie in a 22” barrel or a 22 grendel with the same.
Any opinion on the two. Would be a 300-1000 yard rifle to do local prairie dogs sillouett shoots and maybe an occasional coyote.

Go with the Grendel. Great case design ......It works real well necked up or down & Lapua makes the brass.

That was my biggest push for the grendel is lapua brass

Grendel for the win. The Valkerie is much to do about nothing. In my personal opinion.

Long Range to us Prone Shooters = 600,800,900 and 1000 ?
For this you need to move up !
6.5 , 6.4x47 .308 .
.224 etc. are 600 with work ?

Barrel you need to thing big 24-26 in.
For AR Platforms move the gas port 2” forward.

224 is a fantastic case design that will likely be around for a very long time. That being said, if you can deal with all the necking down and such, I think the Grendel will push the 90s better for obvious reasons- not to mention the availability of Lapua brass.

When I first saw the 224, I ordered a reamer more suitable for 60-70 grain bullets, and I intend to use it for coyote with the 64 grain Berger.

600 yds. is Mid Range.

I’ve got a 7mm I run to 1300. I’m just wanting something on a semi auto and to play with the heavy 22s. I’ve also got a rra 308 for 600 yard shooting

You may want think about 6mm AR Long Range like Whitney ??
