SMALL BORE

I used to shoot it a lot in Colorado. But for the most part, it is a dead sport around here.

Shot a lot of it back in the 1980's in Maryland and Virginia. Had a Boyd Carpenter
XP-100 in 7 x 47 and made International Rank. Shot the Internationals also
and really enjoyed it.

Tom was a great guy. He spotted my first match I ever shot. Big 7 BB UAS!
Tom also cost me a lot of money.

We used to shoot IHMSA matches but participation was down to the point that we still shoot informal matches but no longer affiliated with IHMSA. I usually shoot 2 or 3 a year. It's a lot of fun and a great group of guys but hard to get new shooters out.

Yep, shot for a few years and was a match director for 45 years.
International Class in R, P, Unlimited and standing, SB and BB both
State and Region 4 gun aggregate champion SB and BB. Shot in the first cast bullet Championships in Aiken, SC in 1984, Muggs Tyler out of AK at that time, bested me by one target for high overall revolver. After that we had over a dozen interesting matches for high revolver with cast at the Internationals every year. Muggs was a fine competitor and a really good man.
I shot steel for a few decades and am a IHMSA life member.

As a diabetic, the disease will eventually get to your eyesight and your hand nerves. So I am retired.

Joined IHMSA in 1983 after my dad introduced me to the sport. Shot a lot in Bloomington and Indianapolis, IN. Still shooting the sport here in Terre Haute, we've hosted 3 of the last 4 World Championships here.

Great sport, but matches are labor intensive and younger generations lean towards action oriented events. My grandaughter is age 14 and is a 4th generation IHMSA competitor.

IMSHA went away in my area. I really enjoyed the standing categories. Field pistol was my favorite. My only regret was I never shot a 40x40. Lots of 38s and 39s. The one day I hit 40 I center punched a pig that jumped staight up, back down and did not fall. That was with a 10in Contender in 22 Hornet. Also watching rams fall at 200 especially in revolver class was fun. 300 gr 44 mag did them with authority. IMSHA going away is what pushed me to benchrest.

Did you ever shoot the west coast championship at grant pass Oregon.
I shot it in 2012 got my butt handed to me by a guy shooting a Dasher first time I heard of a “Dasher”
That was one of my favorite championships and I attended all but 9 of them! The first championship (2001) I ended up winning BB UAS 1/2 scale and my shooting partner won BB UAS.

2014 was my favorite year as that was the year I won BB revolver. I am known for the person who was clean to his last target, But the trigger return spring broke and Last shot went wild. I Ended up stealing the spring from my 22 FA to allow me to shoot-offs. won that shoot off against one of the best shooters on the west coast!

The world championships were the hardest to shoot in IHMSA's heyday. one year I shot an 80x80 with 3 of 5 shoot-offs in BB UAS. This got me 17th place that year!

I am also an IHMSA life member and still do a lot of volunteer work for them.

Hello, Richard!
Hope you are doing well! Robert and I are still running the IHMSA matches at Little River Gun Club.
Miss seeing you at the matches!
I’m starting my 45th year of shooting IHMSA!

Melvin, Robert called me last week it was great to hear from him As well. Would love to come shoot with y’all but it not in the cards unfortunately. The IHMSA is like one big family especially the whole George gang.

I shot IHMSA pretty much through out the 80s. LGS owner was also an IHMSA shooter. He ordered six of these from the factory. Originally chambered in 7mm BR, all 6 were re-chambered by the Remington custom shop to 7mm-08. No problem knocking down rams at 200 meters.

I still show up, but have not shot very many. Have lost several long time friends since 2020. I am now second youngest at matches 63, youngest is not quite 50.
Got to playing with rifles and varmint hunting, then got involved with PCP air stuff.

I shot IHMSA in the 80's. Started off with a 44 Mag, then a Contender, and finally a Wichita MK 40 7 IHMSA. I really liked the Wichita, as it had 4 position rear sight for elevation, and the windage was on the front sight.
Not much IHMSA around the St Louis area anymore.
Haven't shot since 1986. That year I won the Missouri State Championship in U-INT with my Wichita, blew the smoke from the end of the barrel, thanked them for the trophy, and called it quits.
It was an interesting match. Another guy and I tied at 40, so we had a shoot off. We shot snuff cans (about 3" diameter) at 200 meters, and I prevailed. Here is my gun. Well, actually it is a pic from Wichita's website, I could not find a pic on my computer.

Another interesting point, shortly after I got the gun, I was shooting a match in Litchfield Illinois, and they weighed the guns. My gun was overweight. They let me shoot, but I was not included in the match. I took it to a machinist, and he milled slots in the outer diameter of the bolt to make weight limit. Needless to say, I complained to Wichita. Their 308 caliber made weight, the 7mm did not without the bolt modification.
