Any opinions on Sierra tipped SMKs ?

Has anyone had any experience with the .308 sierra tipped 168 gr matchkings. I have never shot Sierra bullets, as I have mostly shot hunting bullets in the past. I'm currently shooting 165 NBT and I like them a lot, but since all I'm doing is punching holes in paper, I figure I could save a little money (about $10- $12/100 from what I've seen). any opinions?

Thanks

Scott

In my limited experience, they ahhot great, but are a little more jump sensitive. Good reloading practices make them another excellent choice.

Added Note ! on the 155 Palma Bullet Green Tip. They shoot Ok but not as good as 2156C .

.308 175 green tip shoot very good, better than the old 175. Jump very important on this one.
Trouble was with a box of 500 the ogive to base differed by .010 + or - set them for a ball park of
.008 jump and good performance. 800 to 1000 yards.

Thanks for the info, guys. i was just asking, snce I have no experience with these bullets. i have recently been shooting 165 NBT, and before that, Hornady 165 SST, and had good accuracy with both of them on paper targets. Since these seem to be similar type bullets, but with better BC, I was just thinking I might do a little better and save some money at the same time.

Sit down with a ballistic calculator and look at what the actual differences are between 75 to 80 grain pills in a 223 out to 600 yards at service rifle velocities and you'll see that the differences are on paper, just not that great, then try to equate that to real world shooting and it's a toss up. Pretty much all of them shoot well enough. So the answer is that they if they all shoot about the same, and for the increased $$ for the plastic tips, it's probably not worth it.

For bolt guns in F-TR, I like 80Amax and 90VLDs

Just started working with the .308 175 TMK's. looking very promising in my "Savterion", soon to be F/TR comp rifle. shooting in the two's to the low fours's, 5 shots at 100 yds. had them out briefly at 600 yd, and they shot better than the SMK's. jump seems to be in the -.005" to -.015" range. Varget working good as well. the loads seem very close to my SMK 175 loads

. now working only with these and the 185 Berger Juggernauts for the longer range stuff. it would be nice if the TMK's shoot as well as the Berger's, cause they are a lot cheaper.

I agree with Mac86951 and swadiver. That has been my experience as well, they are jump sensitive. Per Sierra tech support, they use the same load data as the corresponding match-kings. I will add one note, they seem to drive faster than the corresponding SMK's. They shoot great, but unless you find a sale, I dunno if I'd switch. I'm happy with the Nosler 175 CC's at the moment, but the $0.205/rd has something to do with that....
