Any New Winter Projects????

I just ordered a single shot Savage action from Sharp Shooter Supply with a .223 bolt head. Fred is going to time and true it up and I'm deciding whether to buy a Lothar Walther pre-fitted barrel in .223 with a 1-8" twist or another Pac-Nor. I have several Pac-Nor barrels but no Walther's and would like to try one. I'm going to refinish a walnut stock on a Ruger .25-06 with an old English red finish. I have some Clive Lemon's original English finish left over from a shotgun restoration and it will make the Ruger look like a custom rifle when I'm done. I'll re cut the checkering when the oil finish is complete; it takes about five weeks to do properly. My NEF Handi Rifle is at the factory getting a 1-9" .223 bull barrel installed and I'll be visiting Clarence Hammond's after the holidays. There are a couple of barrels that need re-crowned and I want to talk to him about chambering another barrel for my 6mm BR with maybe a 1-8" Kreiger.

Project One -
Began a Savage project with the aquisition of a NIB Model 10 FPLE2B,.308 w/ McMillan A3 stock). It was never intended for it to stay a .308 however, as I expect a 28" heavy contour 5R cut-rifled barrel in 6.5x47 Lapua from JR at Border Barrels, hopefully sometime before March! I'd like to investigate the performance of this round with the 123 Scenars vs. the 123 SMK's vs. the 130 Bergers this summer.

Project Two -
Ordered a Predator Tactical repeater long action w/ 30" Bartlein 5R Med. Palma barrel in 6.5-284. Should be in my hot little hands sometime in January after the Shot Show. Already received my AICS 1.5 from Impact Guns and a NF NXS 5.5/22x50 MLR. Gonna play with this one in some Tactical matches this coming season if everything works out OK.

If things go as planned I should have a lot on my plate come the spring thaw :)

I will be building a 7mm-08 as a lightweight carry rifle. Built on a Remington LH-SA. Going with a Macmillan hunters edge stock or somthing like that. BDL floorplate, 24" tube. Probably going with a VX-III 3.5-10x40 scope. Just a good multi purpose cary rifle for everything from coyotes to elk.

I also see either a 6 dasher or a 6-47 in my future as well. This would be built as a varmint gun on a Remington VSF platform.

Too many to list but I'll give a couple:
An ultralight big game rifle based on a 700 short in 260Ack. Haven't decided on the stock as of yet...
Another ultralight big game rifle based on a 700 long in 30/06Ack probably with same stock as above.
Goal is to have a couple of 6.5 lb total weight rifles to choose from. I'm getting tired of carrying 9lb rifles into the field.
I also have an F-class rifle in the back of my head with a 6mmAck chambering, and the possibility of a 260 ACK barrel as well.
Now Santa is gonna have to hook me big time!!!!!!:D:D.

A little smaller than some of the other projects.
Savage 16 in .223.
,soon to be another 6BR from Pac Nor)
A5L from Joel Russo,I call it "San Francisco Camo" ;))
Pillar bedded and in the clear coat phase.

7mm/270 WSM w/ Broughton 1-9" 1.200 straight, McMillan MBR, Jewell trigger, re-habbed Rem. 700 F-Class rig with 8-32 NXS Nightforce

I have my Eliseo R5 project going, I have my 6mm Lilja barrel and my new rem. 700 action. Now Im just waiting on the kit so I
can send out the bbl to be fitted and chambered......Its a
6mm BR of course.

How's about a 6.5-.284 in a Reinhart-Fajen with H-S Precision drop-box and Lilja 1:8 3-groove necked .290" and chambered for 142 SMK's? And a couple other touches.

Well, I have a small one that I am going to do. I have a CZ 452 .22 American that I have put a Brooks trigger kit in.

This gun has the standard CZ American stock on it.

Last Tuesday I ordered a bench-rest stock for this gun from Don Stith. It came to my house Thursday, it is a green and gray laminate. It was much too heavy to make the weight requirements for any type of .22RF bench rest. Don knocked $50.00 off the stock and told me to send him a check for $200.00

This is going to be my first stock bedding and painting project,so get ready for 1K questions.

The reason that I am starting this project is to have a rim fire gun that shoots and behaves like my three F-Class rifles.

If I practice with my 22RF F-Class rig at 100 and 200 yards, it is bound to keep my muscles and mind in shape during the off season.

I know the mind part is a pipe dream, but it just might keep my body in shape...

Anyway it will keep me off the mean streets of Atlanta in Jan....

Remington 700 re-barrel and re-chamber project. Removing the .223 Remington Barrel and replacing it with a 1:7 Schinder 6mm chambered in 6mmAR so that I can still use the AR magazine conversion, might give it a nice desert paint job when its finished.

Well, my winter project just got finished today, and hopefully, I will be shooting on Friday.

It is pretty simple, just a rechamber of my rig to 6.5x47 Lapua.

Going to load up a few rounds tonight, and hit the range on Friday AM if it is not raining here. I am really looking forward!!

I am privileged to test some Rock Creek barrels. Two will be #7 contour in 6PPC for my BAT; one #7 contour will be a 6BR for a trued Remington 700 and one will be a #4 contour chambered in .243 Ackley for the same 700. I have shot only one barrel so far and I am impressed with its quality. I will post some results later. James Mock

James, your not gonna pull a Calfee on us and make us wait for the june or july issue of PS are you????:D;) Barrel makers are poppin' up everywhere these days, actually I think they are all in Wisconson). But seriosly, It sure is nice to have such a wide selection of button and cut-rifled barrels to choose from. I'm looking forward to your findings...

Tightneck, it is a fact that there are quite a few new barrel makers.....and most are in Wisconsin. My problem is that I don't do my own chambering and I am at the mercy of my gunsmith to chamber the barrels. My gunsmith is Jerry Simison....who is very good, but very busy. So far, he has chambered one of the barrels mentioned above.

I am obligated to write the results for PS Magazine, but I will give a synopsis of my findings here. Good shooting and happy New Year. James Mock

#1: I am converting a Remington XR100 from 22-250 to a Gaillard barrelled 6BR,.272)in 1:8 30", using a 1.5oz Jewell BR trigger, Glass bedding, action blueprinting and topping it off with a Leupy 8.5-25X50 using Farrell 20moa base and Farrell rings.

#2: 6.5X47 Lapua with R700 action, Smith barrel, stock not yet decided...
