Any hood reloading press reviews?

I have bought some of Matt's gear and I can attest to its quality. Would have no problem buying a press from him.

That's one of the reasons it's taking what feels to me forever to get get a new product out. I kid him about being OCD about details. I know for a fact that he's tried a dozen different stock protectors on his new rodholder/cleaning combo and still isn't happy with what hes using. But it works and it will out last me. He says he will start listening to me when I start outshooting him and I'm going to surprise him one of these days, like next week at Memphis....

He hasnt made them in many years- like 15+ years. Scotty crawford was manufacturing them

So just picked up a used but great condition single ram hood press off eBay. For use with arbor press. With shipping and tax 275. Hope I got a decent price.

Use a Coax as long as I and do some of the things I ask a press to do. You'll find there are a few things a Coax just can't do. That is why there is always a O-Frame type press mounted on the bench next to the Coax.

Sacred cow? I never did or will say that.
It has a hard time working well with my Larry Willis Collet Die for sizing the base to the belt on magnum brass.
Also, even though it likely would, I prefer pointing bullets on a screw in type press.
Lastly, swapping the jaws around for the 223 size case head stuff and then back to the large is, well, just a PITA. I use my trusty old single stage for that.

Go in a drawer. Be an arbor press at the same time. Click adjust the die without messing with the lock ring. Itll use long micrometer seaters too. Im sure theres more.

I wouldn't dare want any other press for BR work at the range, long or short range, than a Hood.
And the longer micrometer seaters, while not normally a problem for me, can impede the handle's travel on a Coax.

Ive never seen a coax at a match but see a hood on most every bench. And out of those that have a hood on the bench id say 90% have a coax at home.

It'll use long micrometer seaters too.

Upgrade the yoke on your Co-Ax. That issue has been solved for years, literally. Mine handles a Redding Comp seater for .338LM easily.

I'm sorry, I was referring to the comment about regular O-frame presses doing stuff that a Co-Ax can't. I used to have a Hood; ended up getting rid of it because it felt too awkward to me. Undersized as far as height for seating even my .308 Win rounds comfortably, and miserable for F/L sizing of any kind. For a BR sized case, I'm sure it's the cat's meow. I had heard that there was a larger size available?

I use a Hood single ram press both at home and at the range or motel room.
Made the switch several years ago and never looked back. Bolted it securely to a
2x8 and clamp it to most any flat surface using 3 C-clamps. Works like a charm
and is adaptable to most any mounting situation encountered so far.

Try one - you won't be disappointed.

Yes, no problem at all on BR and/or PPC size cases.
