JB may be an abrasive but it's no lapping compound. How many barrel manufacturers lap their barrels with diatomaceous earth?Dont discount that. Its diatomaceous earth and works well

There is a thread with the specifications of many abrasives that has the answer to this.Glad to hear that reiterated. I swear that was what we were paying for.
That's pretty labor-intensive.
Curious how fine the high-end barrel makers take their lapping procedures.
KG-2 (polish) is 1200 - 1400 grit per their website. And it is DE IIRC.
I always thought JB was garnet but my memory is being abraded away by time.
None lap their barrels with it but plenty polish inside and break in leades with it. It can be used in place of the 320grit silicon carbide that the unexperienced could use to ruin their barrel in a few strokes withJB may be an abrasive but it's no lapping compound. Thats not what i saidRuin a barrel in a few strokes with JB? Not a chance. I've been using JB for nearly 50 years and used it in a pickup load of benchrest barrels back when I competed. It's not going to do anything but remove some carbon "in a few strokes."
