4xforfun, what are you shooting, DETAILS! ;)
I was going to have a LR hunting gun built for my cabin....25 - 30 lbs. My gunsmith (Clay Spencer) strongly sugjested I build it as an IBS 1K comp legal gun...ie 17 lbs. That way, if I ever wantd to get rid of it, I could. So...,BAT "M" 1.55 Round, RB/LP. Fluted and breaked Spencer 1/10 twist x 30" in 300 wby .330 neck, Shehane MBR Tracker Fiberglass stock, Jewell trigger 8 x 32 NSX.

Of course...silly me shot it ALL the time...HG, LG, "F" class, PLINKING....you know always have a bunch of guys around and say.."watch this".

The reply is always...."do that again", fallowed by, "can I try it" ?!!!

1200+ rounds the first year!!!!

Since then I have had 4 BBLs chamberd up for this reciver, Baught a new HG, put another new BBL on it, And just went all out (again) and am building another Dasher. My first dasher is on a rem action.

Now, in my defence...it's not so much that I am shooting worse.....it's just that the rest of the planet is shooting way better!!!!

my first heavy varmint 200yard match was a learning experience. I learned that they give you that 3-minute sight it thing before the real match starts. only supposed to shoot the sighter target. well, I thought that was only in the early match. put 2 sighters down there and proceeded to shoot my 5 shot group. had one left shot left and they said "30 seconds left". I quickly thought "what the hell?, I thought I had 7 minutes????" quickly loaded my last one and shot. that's when I really started looking around. everyone else had their bolts out, looking at me. I knew good and well something was up, I didn't hear anyone else shoot five. buddy's behind with spotting scope laughing, etc. told them what I did, and since the match hadn't officially started they replaced my target and we preceeded with real match. bad thing was that was my best group of the day. but hey, at least I didn't finish dead last.

FJIM's story reminds me of what happened at my last 100 yard BR match. I just started competing this fall, so I'm a total noob at benchrest, fish out of water, I really suck. We're shooting a relay and I'm going about my own business, when the guy next to me starts yelling, "hey, you're on my target!" Of course, with me being a noob I immediately think, "Oh God, I screwed up." I look at my target, check the number... that's my number... I see my bullet holes... I check the number again... I'm thinking "huh??" Again the guy is saying I'm shooting his target, and by this time some other people are looking, the match director is staring our direction wondering what is going on. I was mortified. Finally I swung my rifle over to the other guy's target to have a look at what the ruckus was about. And I said, "dude, there's a big black bug on your target." LOL. We all had a chuckle at that one.

At my first of three trips to Camp Perry in 2000, I shot the President's 100 and was scoring for the next target over. When it came for my first shot at offhand I shot a nearly dead center X - on the next guy's target and that was the only X I got all day.

First 1,000 prone match. Had never shot that far. Didn't know that my scope wouldn't come up that far! Had only shot at 800. SOOOOO....I had to hold at the top edge of the target and drop them in. Still scored a 185-7X. Didn't think that was bad for a 1,000yd hold over! Needless to say, a new 20 MOA scope base was installed before the next match!

That would be my luck. I did dump one in the grass in the Wimbledon Cup match. Last shot for record and brushed the trigger shouldering......

My first official High Power 600yd F Open match last week. 2 days, 60 shots each. I had only shot before, once, at 300 meters, 183, 197 10X, 197 12X. Anyway 1st day at 600 was windy and shifting, shot
195 , 183 and another in the 180s [forgot Xs]. Won 5 bucks for best 1st string. Next day calm winds.
shot 199, 199 and 197. Won 10 bucks and I out shot some "famous" F classers. Not bad for a newbie, HOWEVER I really have to learn reading wind/mirage. Best thing is to keep shooting
against youself to better yourself and not worry about other shooters. I guess I will get classified by NRA in someday. My rifle is a Shehane tracker stock [obeche wood, lousy adj cheek rest], Barnard action, 6mmBR chambered Bartlein HEAVY varmint and a Nightforce NP-2DD. The gun groups 1/2 at 200yds with 105 berger VLD, 30Gr Varget, Lapua brass, Wolf primers sm. Seems to be a very Accurate rifle [with my personally precision loaded ammo, HA!]. MT Guns put the unit together. Cant wait till 26/27 Feb for next match at PMRPC Orange Blossom Classic. Hope some of you guys can make it, it seems that we will have very nice weather in Palm Bay, Florida. Look up PMRPC on Goggle and register for the matches.

Holy guacamole FJim, thats gotta be one of the best stories! Hopefully youll be telling your grandkids that someday. Sounds like something I would do. THATS FUNNY.

There was the one poor guy in 2002 at camp Perry who launched a round in the prep period. He lost the whole day and was escorted off the range.
