Any F/TR Competition around Sacramento or Bay Area?

Hello,
I'm new to the forum, as well as a new rifle shooter looking to purchase my first rifle. I'm looking for any info on how to get myself started in learning how to shoot.
My only rifle experience was my M16 qualifying when I was in the AF. ;D Currently, I reload 40S&W and shoot Production division in USPSA.

Any info regarding a local club and/or beginners class to help me get started is greatly appreciated.

Jeff

This Sunday there will be three 600 yard matches at Sacramento.
Prone, F-T/R, F-Open and tactical shooters are welcome. Maybe even some F-Bench rest shooters.

Have fun Jerry don't pick on Lane to much. And whatever you do don't tell us if he gets beat by a girl again.

F-Bench Rest is shooting from a bench on the F class targets for score. We have F-BR shooters join us anytime we shoot prone/F-class matches at 600 and/or 1000 yards.

The NBRSA is having an F-bench match on April 22, 2011 at Sacramento. Course of fire is 2 - 20 shot strings at 1000 yards.
Rifle rules are same as F-Open rifles, one exception is muzzle brakes are allowed.

This match is between the 600 yard Nationals and the 1000 yard Nationals.

280man -- Hey Lane won a match -- "the" girl wasn't there to beat him.

I went to visit the range today and signed up for membership. I don't have a rifle yet but I'd like to observe the match on Sunday if I can.

The match on sunday you have to be at range 12 before they lock the gate at 730 even if you want to watch. Come on out. Calguns .net has info about these matches on there Centerfire section.

Matt,

The gate is not locked during the match, we close the 600 yard line gate if matches are beyond the 600 yard line, you can use the 1000 yard line road.

You should join long-range.com, a forum just for NRA prone shooting (includes F-T/R). Of course, most of them hang out here too.

Deciding what you want to shoot is the hard part. Now it's just a matter of how much you have in the fund!!

Just registered with long-range.com - thanks for the info!

I totally agree - deciding on what rifle/caliber/scope to get is my problem right now - and having limited funds is not helping either! ;D

I'm looking to get a factory rifle that I could learn on. Perhaps the Savage F/LR if I want to go with .308 or a Savage LRP for .243 Win. I'm small and light so I'm leaning towards the .243 for less recoil.

Choosing a scope is much harder as I have no clue what to get. I'm reading the different reviews but I still have to do some research on Mil vs MOA, fixed vs variable and target vs tactical reticle. With several brands and different price points, it's definitely very confusing for me.
