Any F-class shoots in the San Antonio, Tx area?

Title says it all... i dont have a full blown Fclass rig, but id sure like to shoot one of my rifles against people that maybe shoot better than me and learn where i can...

Once you're up and running you can also do what Erik does, and that is drive down to Bayou Rifles south of Houston for their bi-monthly matches (typically 1k yards on the first Sunday of every month, 300 or 600 yards on the third Sunday).

Wheres the best plave to find the rules on rifles.... they have to be single ahot... can a single shot bob sled mag count as single shot? I mean.. it is single shot with one.... weights?

As i understand theres a 308 and 223 class and an open class where any caliber can be used?

How many shots total for a match can be expected?

CTSA lets you shoot anywhere from 15-45 shots per match, plus sighters. It's a challenging range. The distance is 500 meters, and the targets are the 500 yard F-class target; after each shot, you place an empty chamber indicator in the rifle, and the scorers come out to the targets and score/mark/paste. When they are safe, you have 1 min. to shoot the next shot. There's no "machine-gunning" for F/O shooters, so they have to read the conditions just like F/TR. The wind can be another challenge, but it is loads of fun, and a very friendly bunch of guys, some of whom are also very capable shooters. Tell them "hi" from me. I've greatly enjoyed the couple of times I've shot there. Remember, no muzzle brake.

Both shoot under the same rules, so an F-T/R shooter can machine gun just like an F-Open shooter can (not at CTSA of course).

The match bulletin will usually specify how many shots, but generally for a one day club match expect 45-60 shots for record, plus sighted.

West Texas long range rifle club.Midland Texas march 28 2015 first competition 1000 yds unlimited sighters 3 round 15 for score. Because it is a new range nra sharpshooter and up or members .Just have 10 firing points now work in progress .

I don't know what kind of rifle you have, but you would be better off just making the drive to Houston to Bayou Rifle club. You can shoot a 600 yard match to get your feet wet. At Bayou they shoot 60 shots for record plus sighters, so you will shoot 70+ shots by about 1 PM. At CTSA, since they have no pits, they shoot about 15 shots by 1PM, so it is very slow.

Hey Missed, I live in Granbury and shoot F-TR. In this area we have to travel quiet a bit. Since the closing of Camp Wolters there is no where real close.. We were in Oklahoma City this weekend and shoot at Carthage in East Texas a lot. Both are 600 yard ranges. I have your favorite kinda of rifle! I have a Savage Mod 10, It is in a Choate stock, Vortex PST 6-24-x50, (I'm a lefty so factory rifles are are slim pickings for me, when I bought it a custom was out of the price range, and a 700 was not to be found.) Its a 308 so I would be in FTR (Now I wish I had bought one custom repeater action and have multiple barrels, stocks, and scopes but I have what I have....)

15 shots in 3~ hours sounds painful.

It does not take 3 hours to shoot 15 shots, it takes maybe 30-40 minutes per relay and there are usually 4-5 relays. You also have pit duty after you shoot, which means you have to go mark targets for someone else.

They are building pits at CTSA and they were supposed to be done a couple of months ago but I don't know how far along they are.

I am surprised that there is nothing closer than 3-4 hours away. I will make a run to one of the shoots one of these days. Seems like all that is close is 3 gun and tactical rifle. Silhouette looks like fun too.
