Any Browning 9mm highpower experts here????

like previously mentioned, im thinking ur best bet would be to contact browning. im sure with the pics uve got they would probably be the most helpful. other than that i think ur best chance of finding an expert would be at tulsa Wanenmacher's arms show in april.

i noticed on the front page theres supposed to be some browning experts there.

Best bet to get some expert information & opinion would be to head on over to the 1911Pro forum here: http://forums.1911forum.com/

Scroll down to the Browning HP forum on that sight, register, and post your photos & questions there. The guys on that sight are real helpful, and several are real knowledgeable in the area of HP. Besides that, they just love it when someone comes up with a find like yours.

Last time i'll try Dan ???

From the owners manual: page 5, "The serial number on your Hi-Power pistol can be found stamped on the front of the frame, directly UNDER the trigger guard".

Commercial HPs do have the ser. no. stamped on the front of the grip frame, but I'm not so sure that older military ones do. Dan's HP is obviously one of the earlier models, with internal extractor, and the round concave cut on the right side of the slide, just behind the slide/frame dust cover area. The first HP I owned (purchased in 1969) had these same features, and came in its original military flap holster with spare mag still in the pouch on the front side of the holster, along with a Bianchi speed scabbard (black basketweave) - I paid a whopping $60 for it from a local dealer. Its bbl was pitted, most likely caused by use of ammo with corrosive primers. I was yound & dumb, and didn't keep it very long, trading it back to the same dealer for a Ruger Blackhawk 357. Wish I'd have kept it AND bought the Blackhawk ..... hindsight is 20/20.

Still recommend going over to 1911.com to share your photos & story with those guys - they'd appreciate the chance to share their knowledge.

I just dont think that applies to this early model.

I will head over to that forum and do some searching. As i stated earlier their is no serial number stamped under the trigger guard on this pistol.

If it is one of the earliest models, the matching numbers on the slide, frame, and magazines, were placed there to make sure that during stripping, the same pistol would be reassembled with the matching parts. After making a few phone calls, I found you might possibly find the serial number on the barrel itself, or inside the the frame.

Thanks for the info. The only thing i have done was to take the grip panels off to try and find something that would indicate serial numbers. I would like to find out if this is a pre war or post war pistol. If it is a pre war then from what i have read then it should put it somewhere not long after 1935 before Hitler took over the country and the manufactoring plant somewhere around 1940. I read that when Hitler took over they then had the Nazi proof marks when they were made.

There is a lot of history of Hi Power here http://www.cylinder-slide.com/ and custom parts
