Any body using the Burris F-class XTR-II 8-40x50

I found a really good deal on a new one so thought I would try it out. I currently have a Vortex Golden Eagle with the ECR reticle on my 6.5 Creedmoor gun and really like that scope.

I would like to read a review on it, I didn't find any on this site. I like the reticle, similar to your ecr(compared to fine cross hairs).

When I get it installed and get some shots with it I'll post a review on it. I really like some of the features on it over the Vortex. Lots of people tell you it's all about the glass but I have found some really cheap (inexpensive) scopes with decent glass but the turrets wont track worth a shit. To me that is way more important. I'm working on learning the reticle trying to figure out my holdovers and not worry about turning the turrets so much but that does require a really good reticle, not just simple crosshairs.

I have two 8-40 XTRIIs I really like them, I use them for F-class and some steel shooting. The turrets on them are great, nice positive clicks great zero stop, well marked. The glass to my eye is clearer than a NF BR or a Golden eagle.

The reticle is nice, the center is fine and there are good hash marks for holding wind. I've heard some people complain that the second cross hair that is 20 MOA below the main cross hair disapears when you go to full power but that's the nature of a FFP scope.

I received the scope yesterday and all I can say is WOW! I'm impressed. By far the best scope I currently own. The turrets are really positive and line up exactly. Glass is really good even at max power, we will see on a really hot day? Couple of things I did notice, the reticle is useless below 16 power except for hunting it will function as a cross hair. It gets so small it's not readable and at max power the lower 20 moa grid is gone. I guess that's the issue with FFP scopes. The other issue is the flip-up cap wont fit the sun shade?? Not sure what is going on there? Don't matter to me as I don't use them I just use caps. Will report back after shooting with it...…..

I purchased the Optics Planet Exclusive version for fclass use. Overall I like the scope but it definitely looses a good bit of brightness and clearity when going above ~32 power. Scope can be found for around $700 and for that price I’m really happy with it and you probably couldn’t do better in that price range. Doubt it keeps up with some of the higher end fclass and bench rest scopes performance at 35 power and above but it is also a good bit less.

I saw those advertised, but was not sure if would worth the risk for my setup How do like the reticle for precise aiming? Does it cover too much of the aiming point?
Thanks, Tim

For shooting steel at distance, I like using the bracket around
the dot. This scope is now on my favorite Woodchuck rifle.
