any 41 mag

Fan here too. Got my first one back in the 80's. A Dan Wesson 4"VH. Since then, I've added a 6" and two 8" barrels. TC Contender 10", S&W 357PD and a Marlin 1894FG.

I wish I had more,so far I have an 8 3/8" 657 and a Redhawk that's 7.5". I'm curious about your velocity from the Contender barrel, been thinking I'd like to find one or a Super 14. When I first got the Smith it went 1522fps with a moderate load of H110 and the 210 Sierra. The Redhawk even shot it well.

My own choice in a full size revolver is the .41 Remington Magnum. Not over any great quality of the cartridge but because in my experience the N frame smith is about maxed out at .41 magnum. That is .44 Magnum has been more than I like for the N frame. The Endurance Package may have answered concerns of silhouette shooters with high round counts of full power loads but users and S&W agreed it was necessary. I carried a Model 58 for a while and the fixed sights were no handicap. As accurate a handgun as I've shot - for the first cylinder full two handed braced out to a hundred yards on steel plates. In my limited experience an N frame in .41 will be more consistent with different loads than an N frame in .44 Remington Magnum. In a stronger frame a big single action or a carbine I give the edge to the .44 Remington Magnum.

I have never shot the Contender over a chronograph so I can't say how much it gains. I have heard some say the .357 from a Contender is about like the .357 Max from a revolver so I would say at least a couple hundred fps.

I sure do enjoy the 41. My first one was an 8 3/8 blued 57. I read an article by Bob Milek about the 41 and had to have it.
Since then , several 57's a 657 and a couple of Blackhawks.
Dream 41 would be a 5 shot built on a 686.
